After launching the U5 HD budget smartphone in India earlier this month, Chinese electronics company TCL-owned mobile device brand Alcatel has expanded its product portfolio with the launch of a new mid-range handset, called the “Alcatel Idol 5” in the US tech market. Carried a price tag of US$ 199.99 (approximately Rs. 12,950), the Alcatel Idol 5 is now already made available for purchase in the US exclusively via US mobile carrier Cricket Wireless in Metal Gray colour option. Sadly, the pricing details and availability of the Alcatel Idol 5 for other markets have not been revealed by the company yet. The key highlights of the smartphone are its Corning Gorilla Glass-protected 5.2-inch full HD display, premium built quality, 12-megapixel rear-facing camera, Virtual Reality ready device and a decent 2,850mAh battery with MediaTek PumpExpress 2.0 fast charging technology support.

As far as specifications are concerned, the Alcatel Idol 5 features a 5.2-inch full-HD display with screen resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels and a scratch resistance Corning Gorilla Glass 3.0 protection on top of the display. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by a 2.35GHz MediaTek Helio P20 octa-core processor coupled with 32GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card. Now, users can store videos and photos, download/update applications, and install the latest games without worrying about their storage space running out. Talking about its software front, the Alcatel Idol 5 runs on Google’s Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out-of-the-box. Though the smartphone is not entirely upgraded with the newest version of Android, it supports Google Assistant and comes with an array of other smart features.
