Apple is an American multinational technology company headquarter at Cupertino, California. The company designs, develops and sells consumer electronics, computers and online services. IPhone is the signature product by apple. Through this product, apple captured the smartphone market.
With the first iPhone launched in 2007 by then CEO Steve Jobs describing it as three devices in one. He says it is “a widescreen iPod with touch controls, and a breakthrough internet communications device”. Though the iPhone lacked 3G connectivity and app store at that time, it became a smartphone which every individual wishes to possess.
In June, 2008 apple announces iPhone 3G improving user experience. In addition, next month apple introduces App store originally designed for iPhone. The app store served as a big platform for downloading the apps.
IPhone 3GS, first “S” model of iPhone launches in 2009. It proves to be faster than the previous iPhone 3G.
In 2010, iPhone 4, a smartphone with different look and first device with “retina display”. The front facing camera is an add-on for making facetime video calls. Lot of problems came up for the design of antenna due to the connectivity issues. Furthermore, iPhone 4s introduced with new apple voice assistant “Siri” and redesigned antenna. The selfie trend started with this phone’s launch. The following day of this launch the company loses one of its founders Steve Jobs. Tim Cook is renamed the new CEO.
In 2012, apple launches iphone5 featuring 4-inch larger display. Again in 2013, iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c come up with 5c available in different pastel colors. With 5s launch, touch-id enabled home button comes into the picture.
After this apple identifies the customer preferences for bigger screens. Therefore it launches iphone6 and 6 plus in 2014. Iphone6 has 4.7-inch display and 6 plus has 5.5-inch. They support the NFC mobile payments. The “S” versions of the same launched in 2015. IPhone 6 sales are the maximum till date.
Furthermore iPhone 7 and 7 plus enter in 2016 featuring the removal of headphone jack.
We can say apple is the leader in the smartphone market due to its continuous innovation and aligning with customer preferences.
