Today (November 21) was a monumental day for the makers of the upcoming Malayalam film, S Durga (formerly Sexy Durga), as the Kerala High Court passed an order allowing the film to be screened at the 48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
The legal victory comes for the film’s director Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, the makers as well as the entire cast and crew after opposition was raised against the film’s title as it had reportedly offended religious sentiments.
The Kerala High Court in its verdict today stated that S Durga (Sexy Durga) had been certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and that not screening the film at IFFI would amount to denying the director justice.
A joyous Sanal Kumar Sasidharan took to his Facebook page to share his excitement over the verdict stating, “I usually dont celebrate victories. But this I cant stay away. This is the victory of cinema. This is the victory of our democracy. This is the victory of those people from jury who sacrificed. Cheers India!”
