Chinese smartphone manufacturer Gionee launched their selfie-centric smartphone, “Gionee A1” in the Indian market in March this year with a price tag of Rs. 19,990. Just three months after launch, the Gionee A1 price in India has been slashed by Rs. 3,500 and customers now can purchase the smartphone at Rs. 16,499 from e-commerce website Amazon.in. Although the Shenzhen-based company did not make an announcement on the price cut for the country, as the company’s official online store and Flipkart are still showing the original price tag (Rs. 19,990) for Gionee A1 64GB and Black colour variant. However, as we mentioned earlier, the smartphone is now already available via Amazon India at the discounted price. Note that, this aforementioned price is applicable for Gionee A1 64GB and Black colour variant only, while Gold and Grey colour variants are now retailing on Amazon with a price tag of Rs. 17,250 and 16,793 respectively.
Last week, Gionee launched a special Signature Edition of Gionee A1 smartphone for the Indian market at Rs. 19,999. Dubbed as the “Virat Kohli’s Signature Edition Gionee A1”, the new special edition of Gionee A1 comes decorated with Gionee’s brand ambassador and Indian cricket team skipper Virat Kohli’s signature at the rear panel.
Just in case you’d forgotten, the Gionee A1 sports a 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The device is powered by a 2.0GHz Mediatek MT6755 Helio P10 octa-core processor paired with Mali T860MP2 GPU to handle the graphics. In terms of memory, the smartphone is backed by a 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card. Talking about its software front, the Gionee A1 runs company’s proprietary Amigo 4.0 custom UI skin, based on Google’s Android 7.0 Nougat operating system.
In terms of optics, the new Gionee A1 houses a 13-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, a 1/3.06-inch Sony IMX258 sensor, 5P lens and dual-LED flash. On the front, there is a 16-megapixel front-facing shooter with f/2.0 aperture, 1/3.06-inch sensor, and 5P lens. The selfie camera also comes with an LED flash module for capturing selfies and making video call even in low light. Additionally, the Gionee A1 features Waves MaxxAudio technology for superior sound quality.
In terms of connectivity, the dual-SIM (Nano+Nano) Gionee A1 offers various connectivity options including 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, hotspot, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS/A-GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microUSB port for charging and data transfer. The Gionee A1 comes packed with a high-density 4010mAh battery with 18W ultra-fast charging power adapter for fast charging. Sensors on the smartphone include an Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor, Proximity sensor, E-compass, Fingerprint sensor and a Gyroscope sensor. Dimensionally, the handset measures 154.5 x 76.5 x 8.5 mm and weighs 182 grams.
