Reliance Jio arrived in the Indian telecom sector as a disruptive player. Reliance Jio has changed the telecom landscape in India. However, its launch did not result in the price war that many had expected. The telecom operators are launching new plans and recharge packs of their own, unlimited voice calls, various data benefits. This is just in order to retain users.

Idea as part of its new mobile prepaid pack is offering 500MB of Internet data per day along with free unlimited calls. This offer is for its select users at just Rs. 348. This comes around 14GB when considering the 28 day validity of the pack. This seems to be a good scheme at the price.

This new offer is only made available to select users with low average data consumption. This is just to encourage them to consume more Internet data. Users need to have a 4G handset but not a 4G-enabled SIM to avail this new offer from Idea.

This is not an open market offer and can only be availed if the company chooses to extend you the offer. In order to check for the eligibility for this offer, we can download the ‘My Idea’ app from the Google Play store or App Store.

After signing in with the Idea number, one can check the availability of the plan from the app-exclusive offers section. One can alternatively speak with customer care.

Also, this move from the company doesn’t come as a surprise. Reliance Jio has almost forced other telecom operators to come up with affordable mobile plans. They are doing this to cover up the threat posed by the Reliance Industries owned Telecom Company.

The fight today among the telecom companies in India suddenly makes India one of the countries with cheapest wireless data rates. India probably now has the cheapest wireless data. Although quality of service can still be improved. Also the effect of such free fall in data and call rates are going to be big.
