The Indian arm of American automobile company, Jeep India on Monday finally launched its much awaited new generation Jeep Compass SUV (sport utility vehicle) in the Indian auto market at a starting price of Rs. 14.95 lakhs (Ex-showroom Delhi). Besides this, the company has also announced the launch of Mopar brand in India, which will take care all servicing requirements of Jeep customers. The Jeep Compass SUV comes bundled with a 1,00,000km maintenance warranty (three years) as well as complimentary roadside assistance for three years. If you don’t remember, the bookings for the new Jeep Compass SUV began on June 19 at a down-payment of Rs. 50,000 and the recent reports suggest that it had received an unprecedented 5,000 bookings with 38,000 hot enquiries for the vehicle in just forty days. Prospective customers can make bookings for the 2017 Jeep Compass at the nearest Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) or Jeep-authorised dealerships across the country at a token amount of Rs. 50,000, while the deliveries of the new Jeep Compass to its owners will commence from today in five body colour options including Exotica Red, Vocal White, Minimal Grey, Hydro Blue, and Brilliant Black. The 2017 Jeep Compass SUV will be locally manufactured in India at the FCA’s joint venture (JV) facility in Ranjangaon near Pune, Maharashtra.
The new Jeep Compass compact SUV has been offered by the company in three trims– Sport, Longitude and the Limited (top-of-the-line) and will be available in both diesel and petrol engine options. The diesel-powered variants are available in both 4×4 and 4×2 drivetrain options, while the petrol-powered variants will be available in 4×2 drivetrain option only.

Engine & Power
Talking about its mechanical department, the Jeep Compass comes in two engine options — a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder MultiAir turbo petrol engine and a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder MultiJet II Turbocharged diesel engine. The petrol engine generates over 160 bhp of peak power and 260 Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the 2.0-litre Multijet oil burner generates 171 bhp of peak power @ 3750 rpm and 350Nm of peak torque between 1750 to 2500 rpm. Both the engine units come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission (Petrol and Diesel) and the 7-speed Dual Dry Clutch Technology (DDCT) Automatic transmission (Petrol). The SUV also offers Terrain response system that allows drivers to choose between different driving modes like Auto, Snow modes, Sand, Mud, Rock, each subtly changing the steering and the characteristics of the power delivery. The SUV has a fuel tank capacity of 60 litres and delivers an ARAI rated fuel efficiency of 17.1 kmpl and 16.3 kmpl for the 4×2 variants and the 4×4 diesel variant respectively.

Interior & Exterior:
Talking about its exterior, the new Jeep Compass comes with an unmistakable Jeep design, which is enhanced by a seven-slot chrome finished front grille, Halogen headlamps, LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs (high-end variant), Chrome finished alloy wheels, Compass badges and other stylish and appealing features. The side profile of the SUV features body coloured door handles, body coloured door mirrors with side indicators, auto folding ORVMs (outer rear view mirrors), roof rails, 16-inch alloy wheels on the lower variants and 17-inch alloy wheels on top versions. The rear section receives LED tail lamps, rear spoiler & silver skid plate on the rear bumper and dual exhaust pipes. Dimensionally, the five-seater Jeep Compass measures 4,395 mm in length, 1,818 mm in width, 1,640 mm in height. The car has a wheelbase of 2,636 mm and offers a 178mm of ground clearance.
Inside the cabin, the new-generation Compact SUV houses Ski Grey leather upholstery, customisable 3.5-inch information cluster, Uconnect infotainment system with 7-inch infotainment touch-screen display that supports Navigation, integrated voice command, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth audio streaming, USB, AUX input, etc. Other features include dual-zone climate control, push button start/stop, steering mounted control panel, 6-speaker sound system, reverse parking sensors with a camera (depending on the variant level), and a host of safety and security features.
Safety
In terms of safety, the Jeep Compass SUV offers more than 50 safety and security features that include Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), dual front Airbags as standard, Traction Control, Hydraulic Boost Failure Compensation, Hill Start Assist (HSA), Dynamic Steering Torque (DST), Adaptive Brake Lights, Panic Brake Assist and much more. The Four-wheel-drive (4×4) variant will come with six airbags with dual stage passenger airbags.
In the Indian lucrative market, the 2017 Jeep Compass compact SUV will compete against the Tata Hexa, Hyundai Tucson, Mahindra XUV500, Honda CR-V, and the newly launched Volkswagen Tiguan.
