The Indian arm of American automobile company, Jeep India is all set to introduce its new generation Jeep Compass SUV (sport utility vehicle) in the Indian auto market on July 31 (Monday), 2017. As a reminder, the bookings for the new Jeep Compass SUV began on June 19 at a down-payment of Rs. 50,000 and the recent reports suggest that it had received an unprecedented 1,000 bookings for the vehicle in just three days. As of now, the company has made no official announcements about the pricing details and availability of the new-generation Jeep Compass, but we can expect the petrol variant of the Jeep Compass is likely to be priced in India at Rs. 15-16 lakh, while the high-end diesel variant of the Jeep Compass is expected to be launched in the country with a price tag of Rs. 23 lakhs (all prices are mentioned Ex-showroom, Delhi). The 2017 Jeep Compass SUV will be manufactured at the FCA’s Ranjangaon manufacturing plant in Pune, Maharashtra.
For the Indian market, the Jeep Compass SUV will be offered in three variants– Sport, Longitude and the Limited (top-of-the-line). The new SUV will be made available in five body colour options including Exotica Red, Vocal White, Minimal Grey, Hydro Blue, and Brilliant Black.
Talking about its mechanical department, the Jeep Compass will be powered by a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder MultiAir turbo petrol engine and a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder MultiJet diesel engine. The petrol engine generates over 160 bhp of peak power and 260 Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the 2.0-litre Multijet oil burner generates 170bhp of peak power and 350Nm of peak torque. Both the engine units will come mated to 6-speed manual transmission (Petrol and Diesel) and the 7-speed Dual Dry Clutch Technology Automatic transmission (Petrol). Higher variants will be offered with a four-wheel-drive system. The SUV will also offer Terrain response system that allows drivers to choose between different driving modes like Auto, Snow modes, Sand, Mud, Rock, each subtly changing the steering and the characteristics of the power delivery.
Talking about its exterior, the Jeep Compass will be seen with an unmistakable Jeep design, which is enhanced by a seven-slot chrome finished front grille, halogen headlamps, projector headlamps with LED DRLs (high-end variant), Chrome finished alloy wheels, Compass badges and other stylish and appealing features. Dimensionally, the five-seater Jeep Compass will measure 4,398mm in length, 1,819mm in width and 1,667mm in height.
Inside the cabin, the new-generation Compact SUV will feature Premium upholstery, Large TFT screen, Chrome Inserts, Uconnect infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, reverse parking sensors (depending on the variant level), and a host of safety and security features. The Jeep Compass SUV will offer more than 50 safety and security features that include Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control, Hydraulic Boost Failure Compensation, Hill Start Assist (HSA), Panic Brake Assist, etc. The Four-wheel-drive (4×4) variant will come with six airbags with dual stage passenger airbags.
Once launched in the Indian lucrative market, the 2017 Jeep Compass will compete against the Tata Hexa, Hyundai Tucson, Mahindra XUV500, Honda CR-V, and the newly launched Volkswagen Tiguan.
