Chinese smartphone manufacturer Meizu on Monday officially announced the launch of its mid-range smartphone, the M5 for the Indian tech market. To recall, Meizu M5 was first launched in China back in October last year and the 2GB RAM with 16GB internal storage variant is priced at 699 Yuan (approximately Rs. 7,000), while the 3GB RAM with 32GB internal storage variant is priced at 899 Yuan (approximately Rs. 8,900). The company has now launched this mid-range smartphone in India with a price tag of Rs. 10,499. Priced at Rs 10,499 for its 32GB internal storage variant, the Meizu M5 will be made available exclusively on TATA’s e-commerce website Tatacliq.com in Blue and Champagne Gold colour variants. In China, Meizu M5 comes in mint green, matte black, blue and champagne gold colour options.

The big highlights of the smartphone are that it offers fingerprint sensor, that is housed underneath the Home Button and is claimed to unlock the phone just within 0.2 seconds. Meizu M5 also offers 4G VoLTE support, a hybrid dual-SIM slot, an octa-core processor, and a 13-megapixel camera, at this price range. Design wise, the Meizu M5 sports a polycarbonate body. The volume rockers as well as the power/lock buttons are housed on the right-hand edge of the device and a 3.5mm audio jack, speaker’s grilles, and the charging port are all placed at the bottom of the smartphone.

Commenting on the launch of Meizu M5 Leon Zhang, Meizu Marketing Head, South Asia said, “We had launched M5 in China market a few months ago and within a short span of time, this particular model bought various accolades for Meizu’s M series. This overwhelming response further inspired us to introduce this device in Indian market which evidently is one of the key markets for Meizu.

Meizu M5 specifications and features: –

In terms of specifications, the Meizu M5 features a 5.2-inch HD IPS (720×1280 pixels) 2.5D glass display with a pixel density of 282 PPI. This is a fully-laminated LCD IPS display, the company claims the M5 phone’s display has an integrated blue light filter to adjust blue light emission to reduce eye strain. The smartphone is powered by a 1.5GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6750 processor (4 x 1.5GHz Cortex-A53 + 4 x 1.0GHz Cortex-A53), paired with Mali T860 GPU to handle the graphics. The device is backed by 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via micro SD card slot. On the software front, Meizu M5 runs on Google’s Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system with a custom Flyme OS 5.5 skin on top. Meizu M5 also sports a mTouch fingerprint scanner for biometric security.

In terms of photography, Meizu M5 sports a 13-megapixel camera with dual-tone LED flash f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and 5P Lens. On the front, there is a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter with f/2.0 aperture, 4P Lens for video calling and capturing selfies.

Connectivity options include dual-SIM with dual-standby, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4GHz/5GHz), Wi-Fi Hotspot, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/A-GPS, FM radio and a microUSB port for charging and data transfer. Sensors on the device include ambient light sensor, accelerometer, infrared, gyroscope, magnetometer and proximity sensor. The Meizu M5 is fuelled by a 3070mAh battery, that is rated to deliver up to 37 hours of talk time, 66 hours of music playback, 9 hours of gaming, and 5 hours of photography. The smartphone measures at 147.28 x 72.8 x 8mm and weighs 138 grams.
