
Soon after launching the Evok Dual Note in India, Home-grown handset manufacturer Micromax on Tuesday expanded its Canvas series smartphone portfolio with the launch of a new slim bezel smartphone, dubbed as the “Micromax Canvas Infinity” in the Indian market. Carried a price tag of Rs. 9,999, the new Micromax Canvas Infinity will be made available for purchase in India starting September 1 (Friday) exclusively via e-commerce website Amazon India in Black colour option. The smartphone is now listed on Amazon’s website for registrations or pre-booking, while the same will be going on sale in India starting 1st September. Note that, the first sale will be held at 12 pm IST on September 1. Besides this, the company also announced a 24-hour service promise to repair the device. This repair or replacement services will be exclusively available at the Micromax Express Service centres. However, the main highlights of the smartphones are its gigantic 5.7-Inch display screen with 18:9 aspect ratio, latest Android 7.1.2 Nougat OS (upgradable to Android 8.0 Oreo), and 16MP front-facing camera.
Till the date, there are only three smartphones launched in the Indian market, which comes equipped with an Infinity display with an unusual aspect ratio of 18:9 against the standard aspect ratio of 16:9. We have already seen the Samsung Galaxy S8, LG G6 and the recently launched LG Q6 with FullVision display, all these three devices feature an Infinity display with rounded corners. But now, Micromax has also joined in this group by launching the Canvas Infinity with Full Vision display. In the Indian market, the Micromax Canvas Infinity will compete against the recently launched LG Q6.
Design wise, the Miromax Canvas Infinity sports a metal body with metal frame all around, meaning that the smartphone comes with a relatively premium build quality. The device features onscreen navigation buttons and a rear-mounted fingerprint identification sensor, located just middle of the rear panel of the handset. The power-key button and volume up-down keys are all placed on the right-hand edge of the device and a 3.5mm audio jack is placed on the very top edge of the phone. The speaker grilles are seen at the rear end of the handset, while a Micro-USB charging port is placed on the very bottom edge of the smartphone. The rear panel of the handset houses a 13MP rear camera setup, LED flash module and a fingerprint recognition button, while the top front panel features a 16MP selfie camera, sensors, and an earpiece.
Micromax Canvas Infinity Specifications and Features:
As far as specifications are concerned, the Micromax Canvas Infinity comes equipped with a 5.7-inch HD+ IPS display with a screen resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and an 18:9 (or 2:1) aspect ratio. The display is also protected by a scratch resistance 2.5D curved glass display. As we mentioned, the display has an 18:9 aspect ratio and minimal bezels offering 83 percent screen-to-body ratio, which the company calls Full Vision. Under the hood, the Micromax Canvas Infinity is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor clubbed with Adreno 308 GPU to handle the graphics. In terms of memory, the smartphone is backed up by a 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128 GB via a dedicated microSD card slot. Talking about its software fronts (OS), the Micromax Canvas Infinity runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat operating system out-of-the-box. Micromax has confirmed that the Canvas Infinity will get the recently launched Android 8.0 Oreo update pretty soon.
In terms of photography, the Micromax Canvas Infinity features a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture, 5P lens, 1.12um pixel size, 81.5-degree field of view, and an LED flash module. The rear-facing camera is also capable of recording full-HD (1080p) resolution videos at 30fps. On the front, the smartphone sports a 16-megapixel front-facing shooter with an f/2.0 aperture, 5P lens, 81.5-degree field of view, full-HD (1080p) video recording support and a soft selfie flash for capturing bright selfies even in low-light situations.
In terms of connectivity, the Micromax Canvas Infinity is a dual-SIM smartphone that accepts two micro SIM cards using a dedicated dual micro-SIM slots. Apart from this, the device also offers various connectivity options including 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS/A-GPS, USB OTG, a 3.5mm audio jack and a microUSB port for charging and other connectivity. On the battery front, the smartphone comes packed with a powerful 2,900mAh battery that is rated to deliver up to 20 hours of talk time, and up to 420 hours of standby time. Sensors on the smartphone include an Accelerometer, Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor, Gravity sensor and Fingerprint (rear-mounted) sensor.
