Indian handset manufacturer Micromax today relaunched its very successful 5-years old smartphone Micromax Canvas 2 in a new affordable smartphone segment, now dubbed as Micromax Canvas 2 (2017). To recall, the company introduced the Canvas 2 in 2012, that build the company’s reputation in the smartphone segment. The 2017 edition of the Canvas 2 comes pre-bundled with some interesting offers which include, one-year free screen replacement guarantee which is applicable from the date of activation and is valid for one screen replacement.
Micromax has also partnered with Bharti Airtel and the users can avail 1 year of free 4G data [1 GB 4G/3G Data per day (4G handset with 4G USIM)] and unlimited free voice calling (Local/ STD) to any network in India for 1 year. This means, you will get 600 minutes of free calling every month and it is applicable for new and existing prepaid users after the purchase of Canvas 2 (2017). The smartphone comes in Chrome and Champagne colour options and will be made available at retail outlets across the country from Wednesday, May 17.
The company claims that Canvas 2 is the first smartphone in its price segment with a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and 2.5D cover glass. The Canvas 2 gives up to 4 times better performance in drop failure height (falls from up to 1.6 meters) than other glasses. “Equipped with improved drop performance and better retained strength, the device also offers a high standard of optical sharpness and protects against screen damage.”

In terms of specifications, the Canvas 2 2017 smartphone features a fingerprint sensor at the front below the display. The Canvas 2 (2017) comes with a 5-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution display and offers 400nits (a unit of visible-light intensity) of brightness. There is also a 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the front to protect the phone from drops and scratches. The Canvas 2 2017 smartphone is powered by a 64-bit 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737 processor coupled with 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 16GB of onboard storage, which can be further expanded up to 64GB via a micro SD card. Talking about its software front, the dual-SIM Canvas 2 (2017) runs company’s customized UI skin based on Google’s latest Android 7.0 Nougat operating system.
In terms of photography, the new Micromax smartphone features a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, auto focus, 5P Lens and offers different modes including Bokeh effect, HDR, and Panorama. On the front of the device, there is a 5-megapixel camera with 84.3-degree wide-angle lens and f/2.2 aperture.
In terms of connectivity, the new dual SIM Canvas 2 (2017) offers options including 4G VoLTE connectivity, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, a 3.5mm audio port, GPS, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port for charging and data transfer. On the battery front, the Canvas 2 2017 is backed by a 3,050mAh non-removable battery that is rated to deliver up to 11 hours of talk time and lasts up to 50 hours in standby mode. The handset measures just 8.5mm thickness and weighs 160 grams.
