After a series of many leaks and revelations, the Lenovo-owned Motorola on Tuesday officially announced the launch of its most awaited and talked smartphone, christened as the “Moto Z2 Force” at an event in New York. The company has also shared this announcement on its official blog post, saying that “we have introduced our most advanced smartphone ever.” The main highlights of the smartphone are its revamped design, latest and fastest Snapdragon 835 processor, Quad HD AMOLED POLED ShatterShield, shatterproof display and Dual-rear camera setup.

Pricing and Availability:

Carried a base price tag of $720 (approximately Rs. 46,400), the Moto Z2 Force will be available in the US via several carriers including AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, Verizon, Best Buy and Motorola.com without a contract. With a contract, it will cost $30 per month on a 24-month payment plan. The Moto Z2 Force will be up for Pre-orders/ Registration starting today via AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, Verizon, Best Buy and Motorola.com and the same will be made available for purchase starting August 10 (Thursday) in Fine Gold and Super Black colour options. Note that, Pricing will be varied depending on carrier, for example, T-Mobile will be selling the phone for $750, Sprint will be selling it for $792, while Verizon will be retailing the Moto Z2 Force for $756. It’s priced even higher on some carriers like AT&T ($810). According to the company, the new Moto Z2 Force will roll out in Mexico, Brazil and other countries including Europe, the Middle East and Africa starting later this summer.

Moto 360-degree camera Mod:

Besides the launch of Moto Z2 Force edition, the company also announced a new 360-degree camera Moto Mod at a price tag of $299.99 (approximately Rs. 19,300) and the new 360-degree camera attachment will be made available for purchase starting on August 10 (Thursday). The 360-camera Moto Mod comes equipped with two 13-megapixel camera sensors for capturing photos and videos, and this allows you to record 4K 360-degree video, to capture panoramic images as well as Livestream directly through your favourite social networking channels.

The 360-camera Moto Mod uses the dedicated 16-magnetic pins (situated on the back panel of the phone) to connect with the handset, and it uses the default camera application on any of the Moto Z devices. So, you don’t need to install any additional apps to use it.

Moto Z2 Force Design:

In terms of design, the Moto Z2 Force looks very identical to the other devices in the Moto Z lineup with respect to design. The second generation Moto Z Force sports a metal unibody design built from 7000 series aluminium with metal frame all around, making it an 80% stronger than the previous Moto Z and giving it an overall premium look. The new Moto Z2 Force also features on-screen navigation buttons and a fingerprint scanner, that is housed underneath the capsule-sized physical Home Button of the device. The volume rockers as well as the power/lock button are placed on the right-hand edge of the smartphone and a USB Type-C charging port is located on the very bottom edge of the device. Being a Type-C USB port based smartphone, Moto Z2 Force doesn’t feature the standard 3.5mm headphone jack, just like the HTC U11. Interestingly, the smartphone features a front- ported loud speaker that comes engineered with 3 Mics. The rear panel of the smartphone houses a Motorola’s traditional round rear camera setup the comes equipped with dual 12-megapixel sensors, LED flash module and the company’s “M” logo, while the top front panel features a selfie camera, dual-LED CCT (colour correlated temperature) flash, and an earpiece. The magnetic connecting pins for the Moto Mods are also visible at the rear end of the smartphone.

Moto Z2 Force Specifications and features:

In terms of specifications, the Motorola Moto Z2 Force comes equipped with a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and offers a pixel density of 534ppi. AMOLED means it offers more sharp and deep colours than the conventional LED screens. The screen is protected by the Motorola’s revolutionary shatterproof “ShatterShield” technology, same as the Moto Z Force Droid and Droid Turbo 2. The company also offers a four-year shatterproof guarantee against shattering and cracking of display. Under the hood, the device powered by a blazing-fast 2.45GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor clubbed with Adreno 540 GPU to handle the graphics. In terms of memory, the Moto Z2 Force comes in two variants based on their RAM and ROM configuration– a 4GB/6GB RAM with 64GB storage variant (in the US market and elsewhere in the world), and a 4GB/6GB RAM with 64GB/128GB storage variant (Chinese market only). Both the native storages can be further expanded up to 2TB via a microSD card. Talking about its software front, the Moto Z2 Force runs on Google’s latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system out of the box.

For photography, the Moto Z2 Force houses a dual rear camera setup that comes combined with a 12-megapixel RGB sensor and a 12-megapixel Monochrome sensor. The rear camera features include Sony IMX386 sensors, an f/2.0 aperture, 1.25um pixel size, Phase Detection AutoFocus (PDAF), Laser Auto Focus, dual-tone LED flash and 4K video recording (30fps) support. On the front, the smartphone features a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter for capturing selfies and making video calls. Front camera features include an f/2.2 aperture, dual-tone LED flash, and 85-degree wide-angle lens.

In terms of connectivity, the Moto Z2 Force offers various connectivity options including 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4 GHz & 5.0 GHz) with MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2 (Bluetooth 5.0 enabled after Android O update), GPS/A-GPS/GLONASS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port for super-fast charging and other connectivity. On the battery front, the device is fuelled by a decent 2730mAh battery with Turbo Charging support. The company claims that the battery is able to offer up to 24 hours of battery life on a single charge. Sensors on the smartphone include a Fingerprint (front-mounted) sensor, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Magnetometer, Ambient Light Sensor, and Proximity sensor. Dimensionally, the handset measures 155.8 x 76 x 6.1 mm and weighs 143 grams.

Like its predecessor, the Moto Z2 Force Edition also supports Moto Mods accessories for powerful sound, extra battery backup, wireless charging, and full-on gameplay controls. As for pricing, the new JBL SoundBoost 2 and the TurboPower Pack comes at $79 (approximately Rs. 5,100). The new Moto Shells with wireless charging starts from $39 (approximately Rs. 2,500). Lastly, a new Moto GamePad is priced at $79 (approximately Rs. 5,100).

At the moment, the Moto Z2 Force is the most powerful smartphone (in its range) from Motorola and will compete against the other flagship-class smartphones like Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, HTC U11, LG G6, Essential Phone, etc. Unfortunately, the company has made no official announcements about the Moto Z2 Force smartphone’s India price, India launch details or release date.
