Soon after introducing the Eluga I4 in India, Japanese electronics company Panasonic has expanded its “P” series of smartphones portfolio with the launch of a new budget-friendly smartphone, called the “Panasonic P99” in the Indian tech market. With the launch of its latest 4G VoLTE-enabled smartphone, Panasonic is aggressively going to compete against the other budget smartphones. The Japanese vendor has launched four smartphones including Panasonic P99 just within 10 days. However, the Panasonic P99 has been launched in the country with a price tag of Rs. 7,490 and it is now already made available for purchase in India via the company’s brand shops and all Panasonic authorized retail outlets across the country in Champagne Gold, Black, and Blue colour options.

Commenting on the launch of the new Panasonic P99, Pankaj Rana, Business Head – Mobility Division, Panasonic India, said, “We are happy to announce an addition to our P-Series smartphone range, the stylish P99 with improved display and various front and back camera modes for our consumers. The new device is equipped with upgraded version of Android 7.0 Nougat so that you can multitask and are connected to the world. This new launch will expand consumers’ choice of mobile phones in this price segment.”

Technically speaking, the Panasonic P99 comes equipped with a 5-inch HD IPS display with a screen resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels. Under the hood, the device is powered by a 1.25GHz quad-core processor coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. On the software front, the smartphone runs on Google’s Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out-of-the-box.

For photography, the Panasonic P99 features an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, and an LED flash module. On the front, the smartphone features a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper for making video calls and capturing selfies.

On the connectivity front, the Panasonic P99 supports dual-SIM dual standby, 4G with VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, hotspot, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/A-GPS, USB OTG, a 3.5mm audio jack and a microUSB 2.0 port for charging and data transfer. Sensors on the smartphone include Accelerometer, Ambient Light sensor and Proximity sensor. On the battery front, the Panasonic P99 comes packed with a 2,000mAh lithium polymer battery. Dimensionally, the handset measures 144.6 x 71.8 x 8.6 mm and weighs 145 grams.
