As known already, the much-awaited Mersal starring Vijay had been announced for a Diwali release on October 18. Directed by Atlee under the Thenandal Studios Limited banner, the action thriller features an ensemble cast with the likes of Nithya Menen, Kajal Aggarwal and Samantha Ruth Prabhu as the female leads followed by SJ Suryah as the antagonist and Sathyaraj, Vadivelu, Kovai Sarala, ‘Motta’ Rajendran and Sathyan in vital roles and, has a smash hit musical score by Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman.
That said, theatres across Tamil Nadu are following a strike as a result of the double taxation as well as the 10% entertainment tax levied by the government. This has led many fans to speculate whether the strike will be called off soon so as to facilitate the release of Mersal.
In the midst of this, TSL’s Executive Producer, Aditi Ravindranth took to her Twitter space to express her view on the matter. She said, “To All : Please understand a producers plight. Really hope #doubletaxation issue gets sorted. Team #MERSAL needs a Diwali release.”
