US tech giant and chipset maker, Qualcomm has started sending out press invitations for an event in Beijing, China on May 9, where the company is set to introduce the Snapdragon 660 SoC for mid-range devices. Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor will hit the tech market officially on next Tuesday (May 9) in China. The most talked and awaited chipset from the American tech giant is confirmed after it was seen that Qualcomm has started to send press invitations.
It is reported that the Snapdragon 660 chipset will be an alternative processor over the Qualcomm’s top-tier chipset, Snapdragon 835 for the manufacturer who is willing to keep their smartphones affordable, but with great and flawless performance. It is also reported that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset comes with the best level of optimization in performance, battery usage, and others.
The Snapdragon 660 SoC will be an octa-core processor with Kryo 280 cores, which is the same as the 835. For daily heavy duty tasks, the Snapdragon 660 chipset might use a combination of four Cortex-A73 cores running at a clock speed of 2.2GHZ. And for light tasks, there are four Cortex-A53 cores running at a clock speed of 1.9GHz. Called the Snapdragon 660, the chipset is built using Samsung’s 14nm LPP process and should find its way inside premium mid-to-high-end devices. That is still significantly smaller than the current Kirin flagship and the Apple’s A10 chipset.
The upcoming Snapdragon 660 SoC should also be equipped with dual-channel LPDDR4X-1866MHz RAM memory, UFS 2.1 flash storage, LTE Cat. 10, three carrier aggregation and cameras featuring sensors of up to 24-megapixels. The Graphics unit on this SoC will be the Adreno 512, which will be an improvement over the previous generation chipset.
The Snapdragon 660 is essentially an updated version of the Snapdragon 625 which currently powers smartphones like the ZTE Blade V8 Pro and Moto G5 Plus and provides a quality balance of performance and battery life. Already, the Vivo X9s Plus, Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2, Xiaomi Mi Max 2, OPPO R11 as well as the Nokia 7 and Nokia 8 are expected to come with the mid-range chipset because its Snapdragon.
