The Indian arm of the Japanese motorcycle company Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL) has recently launched a new ABS-enabled variant of its latest flagship, “Suzuki Gixxer SF” in the Indian two-wheeler market. The newly launched Suzuki Gixxer SF ABS comes in two trims– Carbureted (Standard) and Fuel Injected (FI). As for pricing, the Suzuki Gixxer SF ABS Carbureted (Standard) variant has been launched in India with a price tag of Rs. 95,499, while the Suzuki Gixxer SF ABS Fuel Injected (FI) variant is priced at Rs. 99,312 (all prices are mentioned Ex-showroom, Delhi). Both the variants of the fully faired motorcycle will be available for purchase via all Suzuki-authorised dealerships across the country in two body colour options including Metallic Trition Blue and Glass Sparkle Black / Metallic Matte Black.

The company claims that the ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) is a supplemental system that automatically controls the braking force more efficiently and avoids wheel lock-up in various riding conditions such as slippery road, emergency or sudden braking, etc. Besides its ABS system, the Suzuki Gixxer SF high-end variant also includes advanced Fuel Injection Technology, which comes equipped with 6 sensors that calculate the optimum amount of fuel to be injected, offering riders better fuel efficiency and a more exciting ride. Like the Bajaj Pulsar RS200, the Suzuki Gixxer SF receives a single-channel ABS sensor and works only on the front wheel. The rear disc-brake doesn’t feature ABS sensor.

Commenting about the new ABS-enabled Suzuki Gixxer SF variants, Sajeev Rajasekharan, EVP, Sales and Marketing, Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd, said, “The safety and well-being of our customers are of paramount importance for us at Suzuki. The new variants not only enhance the rider’s safety but also make every ride more exciting. We are confident that the new Gixxer SF variant will strengthen our foothold amongst the conscientious young riders who want to make a style statement, but also don’t want to compromise on their safety.”

Talking about its mechanical department, the Suzuki Gixxer SF is powered by an all-aluminium 154.9cc, single-cylinder, BS-IV compliant, air-cooled engine that generates 14.5bhp of peak power at 8,000 rpm and 14 Nm of maximum torque at 6,000 rpm (for both Carbureted (Standard) and Fuel Injected (FI) variants). The engine comes mated to a 5-speed transmission that sends power to the rear wheel.

In terms of design, the bike sports the same design language as we have seen on the standard variant. The only addition is the ABS stickers on the front mudguard. Apart from this, the bike also gets automatic headlamp on (AHO), new tri-colour combination, all-new SP logo, new graphics on the cowl and tank, fully digital instrument cluster, LCD trip meter, programmable gear shift indicator and other exciting features. Suspension duties are handled by 41 mm telescopic forks up front and a 7-step adjustable monoshock suspension unit at the rear. Braking duties are performed by a single 266mm disc at the front and a single 240mm disc at the rear.

Dimensionally, the Suzuki Gixxer SF measures 2,050mm in length, 785mm in width, 1,085mm in height. The Suzuki Gixxer SF has a wheelbase of 1,330 mm and offers a 160 mm ground clearance. The bike gets 17-inch alloy wheels, which are shod with a 100/80 tyre at the front and a 140/60 section tubeless tyres at the rear. The curb weight of the Carbureted (Standard) trim is 141 kg, while the Fuel Injected (FI) trim weighs 140 Kg.
