Picking up prank and scam calls has always irritated us and we just wish we hadn’t picked up these calls. T-Mobile, a major wireless network operator has come up with a brilliant strategy to give relief to its customers.
T-Mobile is going to begin warning subscribers when an incoming phone call appears to be from a scammer. If a scam call is detected, the caller ID will display as “Scam Likely.” This will help the subscribers to be aware of the scam call even before they pick up the call and answer it, thereby relieving the customers of answering scam calls.
T-Mobile will also let subscribers block all suspected scam calls so those calls never reach their phones. So, if you completely want to do away with scam calls, you can block these calls even before they reach you. But subscribers will have to actively opt in to the blocking service, as there’s a chance the carrier could accidentally filter out legitimate numbers.
T-Mobile compares the calls to a list of numbers used by scammers and new numbers are added in the list too. Some of the new numbers used by scammers are detected by using common sense.
If T-Mobile sees that a particular number is constantly hung up on within seconds of a call connecting, chances are that the call was placed by someone trying to play a prank. These call patterns are an important tool used to fight against scammers
On April 5th, those subscribed to the unlimited T-Mobile One plan can activate the warnings by dialing #662#. Eventually, all T-Mobile users will have access to this plan, including customers of pre-paid carrier MetroPCS (which is owned by T-Mobile). The service is free and might save you from losing a lot of money to a scam artist.
