Soon after launching the Mi Max 2 in the Indian market, now it seems like the Chinese tech giant Xiaomi is all set to introduced its much-awaited “Xiaomi 5X” smartphone in China in a couple of days. The Chinese company has already started sending out the media invitations via a Chinese micro-blogging platform — Weibo — for its upcoming smartphone launch event, which is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, July 26 at the China National Convention Centre in Beijing, China. At the event, Xiaomi will be announcing the pricing details and availability of its latest creation of the Mi 5 lineup, the “Xiaomi 5X”. If you take a look at the provided teaser image, you will get to see a Chinese actor, named Kris Wu holding a Gold coloured Mi smartphone and on the back panel of the device, you will see a confirmation that it will sport a dual rear camera setup along with a dual-tone LED flash. You can also spot a fingerprint recognition button and Mi logo at the back panel of the device.
However, there are many leaks and rumours about the Xiaomi 5X from the last couple of days. The Xiaomi 5X has been subjected to multiple leaks ahead of its official debut which does reveal a gist of all the specifications and features about the upcoming Xiaomi device. If the emerging reports are to be believed, the Xiaomi 5X would see a significant overhaul in terms of specifications and arrive with a host of improvements. The main highlights of the device will be its Android 7.0 Nougat-based MIUI 9.0 operating system (yet to be announced) and its dual rear camera setup. As for pricing, the Xiaomi 5X is expected to be priced at CNY 1,999 (or approximately Rs. 19,000).
Xiaomi 5X rumoured Specifications and Features:
According to the previous leaks, the Xiaomi 5X will have a 5.5-inch full-HD display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a scratch resistance 2.5D curved glass coating on top of the display. The device is expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB of native storage. In terms of looks, the device will share its styling with the iPhone 7 Plus, especially at the rear section. The Xiaomi Mi 5X is likely to be launched in Black, Gold, and Rose Gold colour variants. On the software front, the Xiaomi 5X will run company’s MIUI 9.0 custom UI skin (yet to be announced), based on Google’s Android 7.0 Nougat operating system.
In terms of photography, the Xiaomi 5X is expected to feature a dual rear camera setup combined with 12-megapixel and 12-megapixel sensors. In terms of connectivity, the Xiaomi 5X will support dual-SIM dual standby using the hybrid SIM configuration (Micro-SIM + Nano-SIM/microSD) slot. That means you can either use this as a dual-SIM phone without memory card option or single-SIM phone with memory card option. Other connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/A-GPS/GLONASS, IR Blaster, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Mi 5X will also sport a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for biometric security.

Besides this confirmation, Xiaomi has also revealed the launch date for the much-awaited Android Nougat-based MIUI 9 update. According to a blog post on MIUI forums, the company will debut its latest MIUI 9 custom ROM for the global market on 26th July 2017. The blog post also confirmed that Xiaomi will launch its next Mi 5X smartphone along with the roll-out of the company’s next major iteration of Xiaomi’s mobile operating system.
