Soon after launching the Mi Max 2 Matte Black colour variant in Hong Kong, the Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi on Tuesday launched a “Special Edition” of its premium Mi Note 2 smartphone in the Chinese tech market. Dubbed as the “Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Special Edition”, the smartphone comes with 6GB of RAM with 64GB of internal storage variant. To recall, Xiaomi launched its Xiaomi Mi Note 2 smartphone in China in October last year. If you don’t remember, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 was first launched in three variants based on their RAM and native storage capacity: 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage, 6GB RAM with 128GB internal storage and 6GB RAM with 128GB internal storage Global Edition.

With the new 6GB RAM and 64GB ROM variant, the Mi Max 2 will now be available in four variants—4GB RAM + 64GB, 6GB RAM + 64GB (Special Edition), 6GB RAM + 128GB and 6GB RAM + 128GB Global Edition. Mi Note 2 comes in three body colour options including Bright silver black, Bright black, and Glacier silver. Note that, the Mi Note 2 Special Edition will only be available in Bright black colour option. However, apart from the memory job, the other specifications and features are same to same as we have seen on the other Xiaomi Mi Note 2 variants.

Pricing and Availability:

Priced at CNY 2,899 (approx. Rs. 27,500 or $426), the new Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Special Edition (6GB + 64GB) handset is now already made available for purchase in China via company’s official online retail store. Interestingly, the company is giving CNY 300 (approx. Rs. 2,800) discount for this Special Edition, which brings the price down to CNY 2,599 (approx. Rs. 24,200 or $382). However, the other variants are still retailing with the same price tags. The Mi Max 2 with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage variant comes with a price tag of CNY 2,799 (approx. Rs. 26,500 or $400), The 6GB RAM with 128GB internal storage variant is priced at CNY 3,299 (approx. Rs. 31,300 or $485) and CNY 3,499 (approx. Rs. 33,200 or $514) for 6GB RAM with 128GB Global Edition.

Mi Note 2 Special Edition Specifications and Features:

In terms of specifications, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Special Edition comes equipped with a 5.7-inch full-HD OLED flexible display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The smartphone also sports dual-edged 3D curved glass on both the front and back. The display has a stunning 77.2-percent screen-to-body ratio and a 110 percent NSTC gamut. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by a 2.35GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor clubbed with Adreno 530 image processing unit to handle the graphics. In terms of memory, the Mi Note 2 Special Edition is backed up by a 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which can’t be further expanded due to absence of a microSD card slot. Talking about its software fronts, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 runs company’s own MIUI 8 custom UI skin, based on Google’s Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. The smartphone also features a front-mounted fingerprint scanner that is housed underneath the physical Home Button of the device.

In terms of optics, Xiaomi Mi Note 2 houses a 22.56-megapixel main camera at the rear, which comes with a Sony IMX318 Exmor RS sensor, phase detection autofocus (PDAF), an f/2.0 aperture, dual-tone LED flash and EIS with its own 3-axis gyroscope for 4K video stabilisation. On the front, there is an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter with Sony IMX268 Exmor RS sensor, an f/2.0 aperture and autofocus for capturing selfies and making video calls. Apart from this, the camera also supports features like group selfie and Auto Beautify 3.0. The Xiaomi Mi Note 2 also features an IR Blaster (Infrared sensor) that can be used as a universal remote to control third-party electronics & appliances like audio consoles, set-top boxes, DVD players, TVs, fans, or air conditioners.

In terms of connectivity, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 is a dual-SIM smartphone that accepts two Nano-SIM cards. Connectivity options on the device also include 4G LTE, LTE speeds up to 6000Mbps, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi hotspot, GPS/A-GPS/Glonass, NFC for Mi Pay, Bluetooth 4.2, a 3.5mm audio port, IR blaster, USB OTG, and a USB Type-C port for superfast charging and data transfer. Besides this, the Mi Note 2 features Aquatic audio processor to offer superior sound quality. Sensors on the smartphone include Accelerometer, Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor, and E-Compass, Barometer, Fingerprint sensor (front-mounted) and Gyroscope sensor. On the battery front, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 packs a high-density 4,070mAh battery with Qualcomm’s Quick charge 3.0 support. Dimensionally, the handset measures 156.2 x 77.3 x 7.6 mm and weighs 166 grams.
