Sealand is a micronation and the world’s smallest country. The total area of the country is 0.004 sq. km. It claims the rough towers as its territory and is located in the North Sea approximately 12 kilometers off the coast of Suffolk, England.
2. Vatican City
Vatican City is the second smallest country in the world with the total area of 0.44 square kilometers only. It is also the home to the biggest church St. Peters’s Basilica.
3. Monaco

4. Nauru
Nauru is the small island nation situated to the east of Australia. It has the total area of 21 square kilometers. This country is also known as the country with the most obese people in the world with 97% males and 93% females being overweight. It is the fourth smallest country in the world.
5. Tuvalu
Formerly known as Ellice Islands, Tuvalu is located in the Pacific Ocean northeast of Australia. It’s the fifth smallest country in the world with 26 square kilometers of land.
6. San Marino
San Marino is surrounded by Italy and is the sixth largest country in the world with the total area of 61 square kilometers. It is the oldest surviving sovereign country in the world and is also one of the wealthiest countries in terms of GDP per capita income.
7. Liechtenstein
Liechtenstein is the world’s seventh smallest country with only 160 square kilometers of area. It is situated in the Alps between Switzerland and Austria. It is also one of the richest countries in the world and has the lowest unemployment rate of only 1.5%.
8. The Marshall Islands
The Marshall Islands is another island country found in the Pacific Ocean halfway between Hawaii and Australia. It is the part of Micronesia with 181 square kilometers of area. The Marshall Islands is the world’s eighth smallest country.
9. Saint Kitts and Nevis
The mother colony of the West Indies Saint Kitts and Nevis were the first two islands to be occupied by the Europeans. It is the 9th smallest country in the world with the total area of 261 kilometers square and is also the major exporter of sugar.
10. Maldives
The Maldives is the 10th smallest country in the world with the total area of 300 kilometers square. There are over 1,192 coral islands in the Maldives which are spread over 90,000 sq.km.
11. Malta
The Republic of Malta is actually made up of three islands: Gozo, Comino, and Malta. The country has the total area of 361 square kilometers and it is situated in the Mediterranean Sea. It is 11th smallest country in the world.
12. Grenada
Grenada is the 12th smallest country in the world with the total area of 348 square kilometers. It is also known as the ‘Island of Spice’. This country is also world’s largest producer of nutmeg and mace crops. It is highly influenced by French culture.
