Last season Leicester City scripted a history. With odds of 5000/1,Leicester City proved everyone wrong and captured the English Premier League Title. The man behind the amazing feat is Italian Claudio Ranieri. Leicester City sacked Ranieri amid the disastrous season the team is having.
After winning the Premier league last season it is amazing to see how badly Leicester City is performing this season. In 25 games Leicester has won just 5 games, drawn 6 games and lost 14 games. The team is just a point away from being relegated.
The downward slide may have started with some of the key players leaving Leicester. Midfielder N’Golo Kante, one of key elements for Leicester left at the end of season to join Chelsea. Also, Fullback Ritchie De Laet transferred to Aston Villa.
The other reason behind Leicester falling has been lack of goals. Forward Jamie Vardy has just managed to find the net 5 times through the 25 games. The defense has been no better as well letting in almost 40 goals in just 25 games. The bad shape of the team has put the team in danger of getting relegated from the division.
Leicester City’s bad form has continued in other competitions as well. The foxes were eliminated in the fifth round of FA Cup as well by Millwall 1-0. Likewise, they failed to make it past the third round of EFL Cup losing to Chelsea 4-2. Since, Leicester City won the premier league last season, they automatically qualified for Champions League. After losing 4-0 at the hands of Porto, The foxes won 4 games out of 5 to qualify for the Knockout stage as table toppers. But the bad form haunts Leicester here as well. They lost the first league of round of 16 to Valencia 2-1. They will need towin the next leg to stay alive in the competition.
Leicester City has fallen considerably from last year. But the decision to sack Ranieri seems hasty and uncalled for as the man helped Leicester win Premier League last season even though the odds were nearly impossible. Lets see who the new manager for Leicester is and if he can save Leicester from relegation.
