India’s pride, Sakshi Malik, who bought Bronze medal for India in 58kg Women’s freestyle Wrestling at 2016 Rio Olympics is upset with Haryana Government for she hasn’t received incentives that were promised. Government of Haryana- Sakshi’s state, before Olympics had announced 6 crore for gold medalists, 4 crore for silver medalists and 2.5 crore for Bronze medalists. And a plot of land in Haryana was also promised.
“Medal ka vada maine pura kiya. Haryana sarkar apana vada kab pura karegi?(i.e I have
completed promise of medal, when will Haryana Goverment fulfill it’s promise..)”, Sakshi tweeted. She wondered if all the promises made were real or just a show off and she further continued that, “Announcements made by Haryana Government after my OLYMPIC MEDAL win were for MEDIA only”. 24 years old Sakshi who got Bronze medal for India the women’s wrestling freestyle competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics held at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, comes from Rohtak district of Haryana. Usually a calm person by nature, Sakshi took to twitter to remind Haryana Goverment of it’s unkept promises. Sakshi’s mother, Sudesh Malik, told TOI, “The cheif minister had made certain announcements and it was followed by sports minister Anil Vij on september 3.

This included a job as sports director at Maharashi Dayanand University(MDU), she is still waiting for appointment letter.” Sudesh Malik also regretted that that government had not yet given the prize money of Rs 10 lakh to Ishwar Malik, Sakshi’s  coach.
But Haryana Government has another story to tell. Haryana sports and youth affairs minister, Anil Vij said her appointment at MDU is under process and some formalities are left, he said, “She was given a cash reward of Rs 2.5 crore on the she landed in New Delhi(from Olympics)”. And regarding the plot of land, minister added, “For that plot, Sakshi has to apply before the appropriate authorities”, and also tried to explain Government’s concern, “The Government is equally concerned about not just Sakshi but all sportspersons”, he added.
