UEFA Champions League quarterfinals draw done, Dortmund draw Monaco, Leicester paired against Atletico

The most successful team of the European competition Real Madrid will face perennial title contenders Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League. The draws for the quarterfinals lineups were done on Friday in Nyon, Switzerland.

The record eleven-time European Champions were drawn against German champions Bayern Munich, who are coached by former Madrid manager and the most successful Champions League manager of all time, Carlo Ancelotti. The two teams have met 10 times in the knockout phases of the competition and have won 5 times each.

After making a historic comeback in the round of 16 against PSG, Barcelona will face off against Juventus in the quarters with an eye on a spot in the semifinals. The contest will be a clash between the teams with best offensive and best defensive record this Champions League season. Barcelona’s 26 goals is the highest for any team this season while Juventus have conceded the least goals, 2.

Atletico Madrid, losing-finalists in 2014 and 2016, were drawn against the surprise quarter-finalists Leicester City. The English champions, Leicester City reached the last eight by beating Europa League champions Sevilla 3-2 in the last round.

Thomas Tuchel’s Borussia Dortmund will face AS Monaco, the principality club who beat Manchester City based on away goals rule. Before the draw, Tuchel said,”I don’t want an all-German draw. Not because we would be scared, but because we want to compete internationally”.

The quarterfinals will be held over two legs on 11/12 April and 18/19 April. Borussia Dortmund-Monaco and Juventus- Barcelona matches will be played on 11 and 19 April while Atletico Madrid-Leicester City and Bayern Munich-Real Madrid matches will be played on 12 and 18 April.
