South Korean tech giant Samsung on Friday launched a new clamshell smartphone, called the “Galaxy Folder 2” in its home market, South Korea. Carried a price tag of KRW 297,000 (roughly Rs. 16,900), the Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 is now already made available for purchase in Black and Burgundy colour options. Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 is the successor to the company’s previous Galaxy Folder, which was launched in China back in July last year. The Galaxy Folder 2 has been launched by the company in two variants, wherein one variant comes with a 3G connection, and other one variant comes with 4G connectivity. As of now, the company has not revealed the pricing details and availability of the phone for other markets.
In terms of design, the Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 comes equipped with a shiny polycarbonate body with lean metal design, giving it an overall classy look. The phone features a large physical keyless keypad (they are all capacitive touch buttons) with separate physical navigation buttons for text, contacts, camera, and other functions. The Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 also houses a ‘social app key’ that allows easy access to frequently used social media apps.
In terms of specifications, the Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 sports a 3.8-inch WVGA display with a screen resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. Under the hood, the device is powered by a 1.4GHz Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor coupled with Adreno 308 GPU to handle the graphics. In terms of memory, the phone is backed up by a 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card. Talking about its software fonts, the Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 runs company’s proprietary TouchWiz custom UI skin, based on Google’s Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow operating system.
In terms of optics, the Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 houses an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with an f/1.9 aperture and LED flash. On the front, there is a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter with an f/1.9 aperture for capturing selfies and making video calls. Besides that, the Galaxy Folder 2 comes loaded with 15 special ringtones and the volume of ringtones has been expanded from 11 levels to 13 levels for middle-aged people.
In terms of connectivity, the Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 offers various connectivity options including 4G LTE, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/A-GPS/Glonass, Beidou, and a micro USB port for charging and data transfer. On the battery front, the device packs a removable 1,950mAh battery, which claims to deliver a standby time of up to 318 hours. The handset measures 122 x 60.2 x 15.4mm and weighs 160 grams.
