Chinese electronics company TCL-owned mobile device brand Alcatel on Wednesday launched its three brand new smartphones–Alcatel Idol 5S, A50 and A30 Plus –in the US tech market. The Alcatel A50 and A30 Plus are lower mid-range smartphones that basically aimed mainstream smartphone buyers in developing markets. On the other hand, the Alcatel Idol 5S has been designed to offer you a premium multimedia experience. The Alcatel Idol 5S comes with a price tag of $279.99 (approximately Rs. 18,050), the Alcatel A50 is priced at $149.99 (approximately Rs. 9,700), and the Alcatel A30 Plus has been launched in the US at $129.99 (approximately Rs. 8,400). As for colour option, the Alcatel Idol 5S comes in Crystal Black colour option, the Alcatel A50 comes in Metal Silver colour option, while Alcatel A30 Plus will be available in Black with Metallic Silver colour options. All these smartphones will be made available for purchase starting July 10 in the US via Amazon Prime Exclusive program.
Alcatel Idol 5S
The Alcatel Idol 5S sports a 5.5-inch full-HD (1920×1080 pixels) display with a scratch resistance 2.5D curved Dragontrail glass coating on top. It features a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, located just middle of the back panel of the device. The Alcatel Idol 5S has a 2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, Adreno 506 GPU, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, and microSD card support up to 512GB. The phone packs a 2620mAh battery. Talking about its software front, the device runs on Google’s latest Android 7.1 Nougat operating system. For photography, the Alcatel Idol 5S houses a 12-megapixel rear camera sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, OmniVision OV12870 sensor and dual-tone LED Flash. On the front, there is an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter with an f/2.0 aperture and 78-degree wide-angle lens for capturing selfies. The Alcatel Idol 5S offers various connectivity options including 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz & 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/A-GPS and a USB Type C for charging and data transfer. Dimensionally, the handset measures 148.5 × 70.8 × 7.36 mm and weighs around 149 grams.
Alcatel A50
The Alcatel A50 comes equipped with a 5.2-inch HD IPS display with a screen resolution of 1280×720 pixels and a scratch resistance Asahi Dragontrail glass coating on top. The phone comes with a separate LightUp SNAPBAK cover featuring animated LED lights that offers different colour formations of LEDs for different type of notifications and different contacts. The Alcatel A50 has a 1.5GHz Mediatek MT6738 quad-core processor, Mali-T860 MP2 GPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, and microSD card support up to 128GB. Talking about its software front, the device runs Google’s Android 7.0 Nougat operating system. For photography, the phone houses a 13-megapixel rear camera sensor with a dual-tone LED Flash. On the front, there is a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter with an LED flash for capturing brighter selfies even in low light. In terms of connectivity, the Alcatel A50 offers 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/A-GPS, FM Radio, a 3.5mm audio jack and a microUSB port for charging and data transfer. On the battery front, the device packs a decent 2800mAh battery. Dimensionally, the handset measures 146 x 71.8 x 7.87 mm and weighs 145 grams.
Alcatel A30 Plus
Lastly, the cheaper version Alcatel A30 Plus sports a 5.5-inch IPS HD display with a screen resolution of 1280×720 pixels and a scratch resistance Asahi Dragontrail glass coating on top. The Alcatel A30 Plus is powered by a 1.5GHz Mediatek MT6738 quad-core processor along with Mali-T860 MP2 GPU to handle the graphics. In terms of memory, the device is backed up by a 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD card. Talking about its software front, the Alcatel A30 Plus also runs on Android 7.0 Nougat operating system. For photography, the smartphone houses a 13-megapixel rear camera sensor with a dual-tone LED Flash. On the front, there is a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with an LED flash for capturing brighter selfies even in low light.
