Home-bred handset manufacturer Karbonn on Tuesday launched a new budget smartphone, dubbed as the “K9 Kavach 4G” in the Indian tech market. Priced at Rs. 5,290, the new Karbonn K9 Kavach 4G phone is now available for purchase in India starting today via online retail platforms in Gold colour option and it will be available on selected offline retail stores across the country from this week. The main highlight of the smartphone is its BHIM (Bharat Interface for Money) app for digital payments. The smartphone also features a fingerprint scanner integrated with BHIM app for secure UPI (Unified Payment Interface)-based payment.
The BHIM digital payment platform is an initiative to enable fast, secure, reliable virtual payment methods through the smartphone, which is developed by the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI). The BHIM app on the Karbonn K9 Kavach 4G has been integrated at a firmware level to make all transactions secure and reliable. The smartphone also comes with e-KYC, Aadhaar authentication, Digi locker and gives access to e-government services, the ability to send money or to carry out other transactions using phone contacts, and contextual payments on messenger apps.
Talking about its specifications, the Karbonn K9 Kavach 4G sports a 5-inch HD IPS display with a screen resolution of 1280×720 pixels. The smartphone is powered by a 1.25GHz Quad-Core processor, coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via micro SD card slot. On the software front, Karbonn K9 Kavach 4G runs on Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out-of-the-box. The phone also comes loaded with “Karbonn Kavach”, which makes the smartphone safer.
In terms of optics, the Karbonn K9 Kavach 4G features a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash. On the front, there is an another 5-megapixel front-facing shooter with an LED flash module for capturing selfies and making video calls even in low-light. Connectivity options on the smartphone include dual-SIM, 4G voLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS, FM radio, a 3.5mm audio jack and a microUSB 2.0 port for charging and data transfer. Sensors on the device include an Accelerometer, Proximity sensor, Fingerprint Sensor (rear-mounted) and Ambient light sensor. The new Karbonn 4G smartphone is fuelled by a 2300mAh non-removable battery.
