After launching U11 premium smartphone in the Indian market, Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC on Saturday launched a new budget smartphone, called the “HTC Desire 555” in the US tech market. Priced at $119 (approximately Rs. 7,650), the new HTC Desire 555 is now already made available for purchase in the US exclusively via Cricket Wireless carrier in Dark Gray colour option. The economical price of this smartphone might suggest a device with weak performance, but the HTC Desire 555 is designed to offer an exceptional entertainment, photography, and productivity experience in its price range.

As far as specifications are concerned, the HTC Desire 555 comes equipped with a 5-inch HD IPS display with a screen resolution of 720 × 1280 pixels. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by a 1.1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 quad-core processor clubbed with Adreno 304 GPU to handle the graphics. In terms of memory, the HTC Desire 555 is backed up by a 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 2TB via a microSD card. On the software front, the new Desire 555 runs company’s own HTC Sense UI custom skin based on Google’s Android 7.0 Nougat operating system.
Talking about its photography department, the HTC Desire 555 sports an 8-megapixel rear camera with 4x digital zoom and an LED flash. On the front, it has a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter for capturing selfies and making video calls. The camera also supports features like Autofocus, Touch focus, Face Detection, Smile detection, HDR, Face Beauty, Voice Capture and Gesture Shot.
Connectivity options on the smartphone include 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, a 3.5mm audio jack, FM Radio and a microUSB 2.0 port for charging and data transfer. The HTC Desire 555 also features company’s own BoomSound audio tech for superior audio experience, when headphones are plugged in. Apart from this, the smartphone also comes loaded with HTC Themes, so you can customise your phone to your personal style by applying a wide range of themes, wallpapers, sounds, and icons. On the battery front, the HTC Desire 555 is fuelled by a 2,200mAh battery that is rated to deliver up to 14 hours of talk time (3G network), up to 4 hours of video playback and up to 620 hours of standby time. Dimension wise, the handset measures 146 x 70 x 8 mm and weighs around 140 grams.
