When the year turns out like a gift-box on the box-office, it offers splendid and astonishing work of cinematic brilliance. And this year has done just that-giving us an opportunity of a lifetime, to witness the most critically acclaimed and appreciated films. 2017 will be definitely missed for the best movies we’ve watched so far, in the recent years.
Here, we’ve made a list of the best and possibly the greatest and fantastic films of this year, that deserve a chance for an Oscar too!

10) A Ghost Story
Directed by David Lowery, and presented in powerful manner, making you understand the essence of longing for someone you love. This haunted flick will be remembered for an outstandingly simple ghost with white sheets, but actually it’s more than that. It’s more than being just ghostly movie-takes you on a journey. Two couples get separated due to a miss-happening, but later realize how much they need each other.
9) Get Out
A social, horror drama that will give goose-bumps to anyone. People with weak hearts must take caution! Debutant Director Jordan Peele handles the story so good that it doesn’t look like a copy-paste work. It’s as freshly horrifying as possible-just don’t miss it.
8) The Big Sick
Standing high on Rotten Tomatoes with a certified fresh 98% ratings from critics and audience combined, this family drama is one to not let pass by yourself. A Pakistani boy meets an American girl and how they get along each other, with their respected families, is fun to watch. How a situation can bind the people into strong bond is great.
7) War for the Planet of the Apes
Matt Reeves’s awesome direction and Andy Serkis’s superb performance as the ultimate protagonist Caesar, will leave you craving for more. The last entry in the Apes trilogy, is probably the best and well received movie that the fans can ever get. The heartfelt story makes for a must watch for all the die-hard Caesar fans who have loved the Ape since 2011.
6) Spider-Man: Homecoming
Peter Parker finally arrived with a never-like-before Homecoming. Jon Watts had a big responsibility on him for delivering the best Spidey reboot ever, and guess what-he did it, with ease. Tom Holland gave us the Spider-Man that we always wanted to have and he was the finest Peter Parker, after Tobey Maguire, and touched everyone’s heart. It’s also this year’s third best superhero movie.
5) City of Ghosts
Based on the deadly areas of Syria and the ISIS’s havoc being done to the innocents, this thriller drama evokes the real situation to everyone about the conditions of the terrorized country. A rebel group called Raqqa, risk their lives for capturing the brutality of the evil-ish militant organization. A must watch for all those who want to know, more than something ordinary, daily routine. It is directed by Matthew Heineman.
4) Baby Driver
Edgar Wright struck the perfect cord with this one and it’s unimaginable to see such a perfection in a musical-heist film that Baby Driver is. Well timed shots, well timed performances and excellent direction makes for a total entertainment, which seems crafted at its core. Lead actor Ansel Elgort will leave you mesmerized with his charming yet razor sharp skills and ‘driving’, of course-no doubt. This one will be remembered for a long time for its musical-crime impact.
3) Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman eventually hit the theatres in the summer of 2017 and DC got its first super-hit blockbuster after a string of three average to poorly rated flicks. Amazon Princess was like an oasis in desert for all the women out there and showed what a female is capable of-even if it’s just a superhero big screen drama. Its greatness can be imagined from the fact that it was described as the best superhero film after 2008’s The Dark Knight and this year’s Logan! One hell of a comic-book adaptation by director Patty Jenkins. A sequel has already been announced for a release date in 2019.
2) Dunkirk
World War II was intense and it’s intensity was finally showed onto a big 70mm screen, helmed by the genius Christopher Nolan. Dunkirk is a masterpiece in itself, and in the way it capitalizes on its components used throughout its run time. The story is about the evacuation of some 400,000 soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk. The war drama will leave you spellbound by its sheer focus on just the event and nothing else. This year, just don’t skip it. An Oscar seems on the way, for this one.
1) Logan
The last, farewell to the clawed mutant James Logan aka Wolverine has got itself a place on top of the superhero movies, ever made. It’s probably the only movie to even beat The Dark Knight in terms of cinematic brilliance and it deserves to be on top-just everything about it so good to watch. The gory violence and the relation of Logan with a strange mutant girl and professor Xavier will make you cry out loud. The emotions get boundless watching this level of film-making and how it is executed by director James Mangold. Hugh Jackman played his best role till date and rumors have it that he, along with movie itself, can get an Oscar nomination next year. If that happens, then it won’t be a surprise. This one last time proved to be timeless.
