David F. Sandberg’s Annabelle: Creation will still be a satisfying deal for Warner Bros., its distributing studio-even though it has received mixed reviews and a slight downfall in Rotten Tomatoes ratings (68% from 89%)-and now the haunted doll’s third origin story is going to have a sparkling weekend debut of $36 million, domestically. It’s overwhelming for the spin-off movie, considering its budget of just $15 million. So, it’s recovered its cost of production.
Talitha Bateman, Lulu Wilson, Anthony LaPaglia and Miranda Otto star in this supernatural horror film.
The film will also prove to be a tough competition for rest of the recent releases. However, Christopher Nolan’s masterpiece Dunkirk is still strong and going. The World War II drama has so far neared in to $150 million.
Meanwhile, it will be a good sign for the rest of the summer box-office if Annabelle: Creation continues it surprising run in the coming days too.
