Chinese electronics company TCL-owned mobile device brand Alcatel on Wednesday expanded its product portfolio with the launch of a new budget-oriented smartphone, dubbed as the “Alcatel U5 HD”. The new Alcatel U5 HD is an upgraded variant of the company’s previous Alcatel U5, which was first unveiled at the MWC 2017 event in Barcelona earlier this year. Unfortunately, the pricing details and availability of the smartphone have not been revealed by the company yet, but it is expected to be announced at the upcoming IFA event 2017. The Alcatel U5 HD comes in two colour choice options including Volcano Black and Pure White. The key highlights of the smartphone are its Android 7.0 Nougat OS, 4G VoLTE support and front flash for capturing bright selfies even in low light conditions.

Design wise, the Alcatel U5 HD sports a polycarbonate body with a textured back panel for easy and comfortable grip. The smartphone features a trio capacitive navigation touch buttons for back, Home screen and multitasking. The volume up-down keys and power button key are all placed on the right-hand edge of the smartphone, a 3.5mm audio socket is placed on the very top edge of the smartphone, while a microUSB charging port is situated on the very bottom edge of the smartphone. The rear panel of the smartphone houses an 8MP rear camera setup with an LED flash module, while the top front panel features a 5MP selfie camera, sensors and an earpiece.

Alcatel U5 HD specifications and features:

Talking about its specifications, the Alcatel U5 HD comes equipped with a 5.5-inch HD IPS display with a screen resolution of 1280 x 720 Pixels. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by a 1.2GHz MediaTek MT6737 quad-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of native storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. Talking about its software front, the Alcatel U5 HD runs on Google’s Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out-of-the-box.

In terms of optics, the Alcatel U5 HD features an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus and an LED flash module. On the front, the handset sports a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter with an LED flash for capturing bright selfies and making video calls even in low light conditions. Camera features also include HDR, EIS, Instant Collage, Face Mask, Face Show, Selfie Album, and Face Beauty.

Connectivity options offered by the Alcatel U5 HD include dual-SIM support, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 (a/b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/A-GPS, a 3.5mm Audio port, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port for charging and data transfer. Sensors on the device include an Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor and Proximity sensor. On the battery front, the Alcatel U5 HD packs a decent 2,200mAh battery which claims to deliver up to 4 hours of talk time and up to 200 hours of standby time.
