After launching the Tiger Explorer 1200 XCx full-size adventure tourer in India last month, British premium motorcycle manufacturer Triumph Motorcycles on Thursday launched its all new retro-naked street fighter, dubbed as the “Triumph Street Scrambler” in the Indian two-wheeler market. The new Triumph Street Scrambler has been launched in the country with a price tag of Rs. 8.10 lakh (Ex-showroom, Pan-India). Based on the Bonneville Street Twin, the new Street Scrambler is built for both on and off-road use. The British motorcycle maker already had a Scrambler model based on the popular Bonneville in its product list. The differences between the Scrambler and the Street Twin are design languages and cosmetic changes. The notable changes on the Street Scrambler include redesigned seat and rear fender, high-mounted exhaust system and dual purpose knobby tyres. In the Indian market, the Triumph Street Scrambler will be sold as CKD (completely knocked down) and will be available in three exciting body colour options including Jet Black, Matte Khaki Green and Korosi Red & Frozen Silver dual shade.

Commenting on the launch, Mr Vimal Sumbly, Managing Director, Triumph Motorcycles India Pvt Ltd, said, “Our ambition was to deliver a new segment state of the art rugged off road styled motorcycle that is both addictive everyday fun and an off-road motorcycle but with its own distinctive attitude.”

In terms of design, the Triumph Street Scrambler borrows its styling and design language from the Bonneville Street Twin (except its twin-barrel, high-mounted exhaust system). As we mentioned, the British motorcycle maker already had a Scrambler model based on the popular Bonneville in its product list. The new model gets subtle changes in design and looks much finer and better than the old model. The all new Triumph Street Scrambler sports an interchangeable pillion seat and aluminium rear rack as standard, removable pillion pegs and hangers, adventure style front pegs for better grip and a bash plate. The new Street Scrambler gets a tubular steel chassis and continues to run on durable wire spoked 19-inch wheel at the front and a 17-inch wheel at the rear. The off-road biased Street Scrambler sits on the Metzeler Tourance tyres, fitted as standard. The Metzeler Tourance tyres are ideal for use on difficult surfaces and provide extra grip and better control over muddy and patchy roads under all weather conditions.

The Street Scrambler also gets twin-barrel, high-mounted exhaust system with brushed stainless steel headers and an LED tail lamp. The motorcycle also features a single-pod instrument cluster with a digital readout and analogue speedometer, odometer, gear position indicator, traction control display, TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system) and a USB charging socket underneath the seat. Other features on the bike include wide handle bars, beefy fuel tank (12 litres), a lower seat (790 mm), aluminium headlight bracket, new front mudguard and ribbed Alcantara-style twin seat with contrast stitching. Dimension wise, the Triumph Street Scrambler measures 2090 mm in length, 831 mm in width, 1,120 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 1,446 mm.

Talking about its mechanical department, the Triumph Street Scrambler is powered by a 900cc, eight-valve, SOHC, parallel-twin cylinder engine that generates 54 bhp of peak power at 6,000 rpm and 80 Nm of maximum torque at 2,850 rpm. The liquid-cooled engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox that sends power to the rear wheel. The motorcycle comes equipped with a ride-by-wire throttle, switchable ABS and traction control. The 900cc liquid cooled engine features a charismatic 270° firing interval for smooth, linear power delivery from the slick 5-speed transmission. Apart from this, the bike also gets a torque assist clutch to reduce clutch effort.

Suspension duties are handled by an adjustable 41 mm KYB fork suspension setup with 120 mm of travel at the front and an automatic preload adjustable twin shocks with 120 mm travel at the rear. Braking duties are performed by a single 310mm rotor at the front, which comes paired with Nissin 2-piston sliding axial caliper brake and a single 255mm rotor with a 2-piston Nissin caliper at the rear. Switchable ABS comes as a standard equipment (both units) for ensuring maximum safety.

Interestingly, the new Street Scrambler gets over 150 accessories to enhance its outlook, more style and for better off-road ability. Some notable accessories include an adjustable rear piggyback FOX suspension setup, Vance and Hines slip-on exhaust, black glass-filled nylon headlight grill with a pressed steel matt black finish bezel, a traditional scrambler twin bench seat, wired heated grips, and an auxiliary power socket.

In the Indian market, the Triumph Street Scrambler will compete against the likes of Harley Davidson Iron 883 and Ducati Scrambler.
