Japanese imaging company Nikon on Thursday expanded its product portfolio with the launch of a new powerful full-frame DSLR camera, christened as the “Nikon D850”. The new Nikon D850 DSLR camera is specially designed for professional photographers as the new full-frame DSLR camera comes packed with several new features such as 45.7-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, Nikon D5’s 153-point, Multi-Cam 20K AF technology as well as the company’s EXPEED 5 image processor. The Nikon D850 has been launched in the US with a price tag of $ 3,299.95 (approximately Rs. 2,11,350) and will be made available for purchase starting from the next month.

The new Nikon D850 comes with a 45.7-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor coupled with company’s EXPEED 5 image processing engine, which the company claims it can deliver clear and high-quality images even under low light situations and is capable of shooting up to 7 frames-per-second (fps) at full resolution. The high-speed image processor also offers high-speed response and improved continuous shooting performance. Nikon D850 is the company’s first DSLR to incorporate a FX-format, back-side Illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor, which captures light more efficiently for wider dynamic range and low-noise image capture. The Nikon D850 gets Nikon D5’s 153-point, Multi-Cam 20K AF technology, which features 99 cross-type sensors and out of these points, 15 points are f/8 aperture compatible. Apart from this, the Nikon D850 is also capable of shooting videos in 4K UHD (3840 × 2160) resolution at 24 fps or 30fps and full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution videos at 120fps. The camera can also record uncompressed, broadcast quality 4:2:2 8-bit 4K UHD footage to an external device over the HDMI port while recording locally to a media card at the same time.
The new Nikon D850 has a high sensitivity range of the image sensor which goes all the way up to ISO 1,02,400, which should make it possible to capture images in next to no light without generating annoying noise. The standard ISO range is 64-25,600 (expandable down to ISO 32, and up to ISO 1,02,400). The another highlighted feature in this camera is its high-speed continuous shooting ability of up to 7 frames per second (fps). With the addition of an optional Multi-Power battery pack (MB-D18) and EN-EL18 a/b battery, the camera can also able to take full resolution pictures at 9 fps. Thanks to its image processing engine, you can buffer up to 51 frames of full resolution 14-bit RAW images, or 170 frames of full resolution 12-bit images. The new electronic shutter operates silently without creating any mechanical noise, to prevent disruptions when shooting wildlife, sports, or sensitive events in a quiet environment. In “Live View” mode, photographers can also operate in “complete silence”, which is ideal for weddings and ceremonies.

The camera has a weather-sealed magnesium alloy body which means light rain or extreme temperatures will not harm the camera.
On the back of the camera, the Nikon D850 sports a tilt-adjustable 3.2-inch LCD touchscreen display with an impressive 23,59,000 dots resolution. By the versatile tilt mechanism, a photographer can easily position at any desired angle for effortless shooting in high and low angle photography. Apart from this, the display offers a clear, real-time preview with 100% field coverage for focusing, framing, and reviewing shots. The Nikon D850 has a big optical viewfinder with 0.75x magnification that offers a wide and bright view of the frame to easily track and compose subjects.
Connectivity options offered by the Nikon D850 include built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy for always-on and a micro HDMI port. The camera has dual slots for convenient data management, one for SD cards and the other for XQD. The Nikon D850 packs a decent battery that is rated to capture up to 1,840 shots at full resolution or up to 70 minutes of video on a single charge. The battery life of the Nikon D850 can also be further elongated to continue longer shooting season with the help of optional battery grip (MB-D18).
