Chinese electronics company TCL-owned mobile device brand Alcatel on Saturday announced the launch of its four brand new smartphones – Alcatel Idol 5, Idol 5S, A7, and A7 XL – at the ongoing IFA 2017 trade show event in Berlin. Among these four smartphones, the Idol 5S comes as a new avatar. If you don’t remember, TCL Communication launched their Alcatel Idol 5S in the US market in the month of June with a price tag of US$279.99. The US-based Idol 5S and the newly launched Idol 5S are not the same devices as they come with different design language and different processing units.  However, all these newly launched smartphones come equipped with rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, full-HD display and 4G LTE support for accessing faster data speeds.

As for pricing and availability, the Idol 5 has been priced at €239.99 (approximately Rs. 18,150) and comes in Metal Silver and Metal Black colour options. The Alcatel Idol 5S comes with a price tag of €399.99 (approximately Rs. 30,300) and will soon be available for purchase in Europe only in Dark Grey colour option. The Alcatel A7 is priced at €229.99 (approximately Rs. 17,400) and will be available for purchase in Europe starting November 2017 in Black and Gold colour options. On the other hand, the Alcatel A7 XL comes with a price tag of €279.99 (approximately Rs. 21,200) and will be available in Europe starting November 2017 in Metallic Black and Metallic Gold colour options.

Alcatel Idol 5

The Alcatel Idol 5 comes equipped with a 5.2-inch full-HD (1920×1080 pixels) display with a scratch resistance Asahi Dragontrail glass coating on top. It features a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, located just middle of the back panel of the device. Under the hood, the Alcatel Idol 5 is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6753 quad-core processor coupled with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, and microSD card support up to 256GB. The phone packs a 2,800mAh battery. Talking about its software front, the device runs on Google’s latest Android 7.1 Nougat operating system. For photography, the Alcatel Idol 5 houses a 13-megapixel rear camera sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, and dual-tone LED Flash. On the front, there is a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter with an f/2.4 aperture for capturing selfies. The Alcatel Idol 5 offers various connectivity options including 4G LTE, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/A-GPS, USB OTG and a microUSB 2.0 port for charging and data transfer. Alcatel Idol 5S

The Alcatel Idol 5S flaunts a 5.2-inch full-HD IPS display with a screen resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a scratch resistance glass coating on top. The Alcatel Idol 5S draws its power from the Mediatek MT6757 Helio P20 octa-core processor, which comes paired with Mali-T880 MP2 GPU, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, and microSD card support up to 256GB. Talking about its software front, the device runs Google’s Android 7.1 Nougat operating system. For photography, the phone houses a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, 1.25µm pixel, dual-tone LED Flash and full-HD (1080p) video recording support. On the front, the smartphone features an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture for capturing selfies and making video calls. In terms of connectivity, the Alcatel Idol 5S offers 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/A-GPS, FM Radio, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The Alcatel A7 sports a 5.5-inch HD IPS display with a screen resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. The device is powered by a Mediatek MT6750T octa-core (4 x 1.0GHz & 4 x 1.5GHz) processor paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot for memory expansion by up to 128GB. Talking about its software fronts, the Alcatel A7 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out-of-the-box. For photography lovers, the smartphone features a 16-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture, Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) and dual-tone LED flash. On the front, the handset bears an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter with an LED flash for capturing bright selfies even in low light conditions. The smartphone also features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for biometric security. On the battery front, the Alcatel A7 is fuelled by a powerful 4,000mAh battery. Lastly, the Alcatel A7 XL features a gigantic 6.0-inch full-HD IPS display with a screen resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels and a scratch resistance Asahi Dragontrail glass protection on top. The smartphone is powered by a Mediatek MT6750S octa-core CPU coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded via a microSD cart. Talking about its software fronts, the Alcatel A7 XL runs on Android 7.1 Nougat operating system out-of-the-box. In terms of optics, the smartphone houses a dual rear camera setup that comes combined with one 12-megapixel primary sensor and one 2-megapixel secondary sensor. The camera features on the device include Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF), Touch focus, Face detection, HDR and dual-tone LED flash. On the front, it features a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper with an LED flash module. It also features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication process. On the battery front, the Alcatel A7 XL is backed up by a high-density 4,000mAh battery.
