Parthiv Patel has been recalled to play the third test against England. He will be replacing the current wicketkeeper of India, Wriddhiman Saha, who suffered a groin injury in the second test match at Vishakapatnam.
It is after eight long years that Parthiv Patel will be seen behind the wickets. He was one of the youngest players to play test cricket and the youngest to keep at 17 years and 4 months in 2002. Now at 31 he the second oldest player in the team.
The team management did not want to aggravate Saha’s injury by playing him in the third test. The upcoming test match between India and England is starting on Saturday in Mohali.
“BCCI medical team confirms that India wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha developed a strain in his left thigh during the second match of the five match Paytm Test Series-2016, played against England at Visakhapatnam,” a BCCI media release stated. And then BCCI added “As a precautionary measure, Saha has been instucted rest and will not play in the next Test match of the series. Parthiv Patel will replace Saha in the Indian team for the third Test to be played from November 26, 2016, at Mohali”.
Patel has a batting average of 29.69 with 683 runs including four half centuries. In the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, he has scored 415 runs with a 59.28 average. He got three fifties and a hundred. He plays for Gujarat.
