He’s being called the godfather of the Alien franchise over the years. Following last year’s Alien: Covenant, which managed average box office returns and divided opinions among fans and critics alike, a sequel had been announced by Ridley Scott.
The latest news to come out from the Alien franchise camp is that Ridley Scott, who is fresh off his Blade Runner 2049 (his production Scott Free Productions is co-producing) will apparently focus more on Artificial Intelligence (A. I. ) contrary to the aliens in the next film of the prequel trilogy.
It was during the promotions for Blade Runner 2049 when he dropped the info stating, “I think the evolution of the Alien himself is nearly over, but what I was trying to do was transcend and move to another story, which would be taken over by A.I.’s. The world that the AI might create as a leader if he finds himself on a new planet. We have actually quite a big layout for the next one.”
For those who are ardent fans of Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, this is fantastic news as both films did an excellent job focusing on the A. I. characters. It is quite evident that Ridley Scott has so far and in a splendid manner toyed around with the idea of what happens when too much power is bestowed upon A. I. and how it’s actions as God in comparison to the alien wreaks unimaginable havoc. Fans though will just have to wait and see the treatment the filmmaker plans for the Xenomorph.
