After launching the Nokia 8 true flagship smartphone in the Indian market last month, HMD Global-backed Nokia has expanded its Android-powered smartphone portfolio with the launch of a new mid-range Android-powered smartphone, called the “Nokia 7” in the Chinese tech market. If you are not aware of this, HMD Global is a Finnish start-up company, which has the official permit to manufacture, distribute and sell Nokia-branded smartphones worldwide. The all-new Nokia 7 comes in variants based on its RAM configuration: Nokia 7 with 4GB RAM and Nokia 7 with 6GB RAM. As for pricing, the Nokia 7 with 4GB RAM variant has been launched in China with a price tag of CNY 2,499 (approximately Rs. 24,500), while the Nokia 7 with 6GB RAM variant has been priced at CNY 2,699 (approximately Rs. 26,500). The Nokia 7 is now available for pre-order in China on e-commerce website JD.com, Suning and Tmall, and the same will be going sale in China starting October 24 in Gloss Black and Matt White colour options. Unfortunately, the pricing details and availability of the Nokia 7 for other countries have not been disclosed by the company yet.
The main highlights of the smartphone are its revamped design, a blazing-fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC, pure stock version of Android 7.1.1 Android Nougat OS, Nokia Ozo Audio algorithms, Carl ZEISS powered rear camera setup, Dual-Sight technology and a powerful 3,000mAh battery.
In terms of design, the Nokia 7 sports a full metal unibody design with 7000-series aluminium frame, diamond-cut bevelled edges and a vacuum moulded 3D Corning Gorilla Glass on the back panel, giving it an overall premium outlook. The new Nokia 8 also features a rear-mounted fingerprint recognition button, that is housed on the rear panel of the device. The volume up-down keys and the power/lock button are placed on the right-hand edge of the smartphone and a USB Type-C charging port is located on the very bottom edge of the device. A 3.5mm audio socket is placed on the very top edge of the smartphone, while the speaker grilles, mic are all housed at the very bottom edge of the device.
The Nokia 7 is the company’s second smartphone support a feature called “Dual-Sight streaming”. The feature provides a split-screen view in the viewfinder and allows you to use the front and rear camera at the same time for capturing both photos and videos. Further, the Camera app on the Nokia 7 lets you stream these “Bothies” as full-HD videos directly to Facebook and YouTube live in the Dual-Sight mode so you can share both sides of the story. The new Nokia 7 is not entirely water and dust resistant, though it is an IP54 certified smartphone, which means it is splash-proof.
Talking about its multimedia department, HMD Global’s new offering also comes loaded with Nokia’s proprietary Ozo Audio and has three high-dynamic range microphones, which enables it to capture 360-degree sound. Ozo is the name of Nokia’s expensive 360-degree virtual reality camera that basically used by Hollywood film studios. HMD Global claims that the phone is recording surround in detail with the help of three high-dynamic range microphones, which is then encoded using Nokia Ozo audio algorithms.
Nokia 7 Specifications and Features:
As far as specifications are concerned, the Nokia 7 comes equipped with a 5.2-inch full-HD display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a scratch resistance 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top of the display. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 octa-core processor, which comes clubbed with Adreno 508 image processing unit to handle the graphics. In terms of memory, the Nokia 7 is backed up by a 4GB / 6GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. Talking about its software fronts, the Nokia 7 runs on Google’s Android 7.1.1 Nougat (upgradable to Android 8.0 Oreo) operating system out of the box.
For photography, the Nokia 7 houses a 16-megapixel rear camera setup with Carl ZEISS optics, an f/1.8 aperture, 1.12 µm pixel size, Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF), 80-degree wide-angle lens, dual-tone LED flash and 4K video recording (30fps) support. On the front, the device features a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter for capturing selfies and making video calls. The front camera comes with an f/2.0 aperture, 1.12 µm pixel size, 84-degree wide-angle lens.
In terms of Connectivity, the Nokia 7 supports dual-SIM dual standby using the Hybrid Dual SIM configuration. That means you can either use this as a dual-SIM phone without memory card option or single-SIM phone with memory card option. Apart from this, the smartphone also offers various connectivity options which include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS/A-GPS, a 3.5mm audio jack and a USB Type-C port for superfast charging and data transfer. On the battery front, the Nokia 7 comes packed with a 3,000mAh non-removable battery with fast charging support. Sensors on the smartphone include an Accelerometer, Ambient Light Sensor, Gyroscope, Proximity, E-Compass, and Fingerprint (rear-mounted) sensor. Dimensionally, the handset measures 141.2 x 71.45 x 7.92 mm.
