Shanthakumaran Sreesanth popularly known as Sreesanth is a former Indian cricketer who was right-arm fast-medium-pace bowler and a right-handed tail-ender batsman. The cricketer was banned for life from playing Cricket by the BCCI after spotting his involvement in spot-fixing in the 2013 IPL in September 2013. Kerala High Court has restored the ban on Sreesanth.
Now, the banned bowler has browbeaten to BCCI that he is contemplating playing for a different country after his life ban was reinstated.
“I have been banned by the BCCI but not by the ICC (International Cricket Council). If not for India, I would like to play for another country as I am 34 years old now and I can go on only for another six years. As a person who loves cricket, I want to play cricket. And not only that, BCCI is a private firm; it is only us who say that this is the Indian team, but you know BCCI is a private body after all,” he told to Asianet in an event in Dubai.
However, Sreesanth’s threat to play for another country isn’t creating trouble to BCCI.
Amitabh Chaudhary, the cricket board’s acting secretary had told that, “The ICC is very clear that any player who is banned by any full member can neither play for any other full member nor for any other association.”
“All this is just empty talk and that the BCCI is very well aware of their legal position,” added by the acting secretary of board.
