Alcon Entertainment’s and Warner Bros’s Blade Runner 2049 is inching closer towards $200 million worldwide total (some relief for the highly budgeted sci-fi epic), after its third week. Yes, the sequel to 1982’s first Blade Runner is underperforming but now it is at least showing some signs of improvement in its overall cum. With a domestic collection of around $74 million in the US, the Ryan Gosling/Ana de Armas film currently sits at a total of $194 million, globally.
And the reason for Blade Runner 2049’s further improvement is that it’s still to release in Japan and China! So, that’s a big hope for the Dennis Villeneuve directorial and it could really up its box-office performance, adding a decent amount to its dismal collections, presently.
The huge budget of around $155-160 million is the cause of worry for the filmmakers of the sci-fi ‘visually appealing marvel’. So, Japan and China could provide a much needed boost.
China has always served as a solid base for converting many films into blockbusters, as far as the present year is concerned.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros’s another mindboggling, monsterous hit ‘IT’ has gone past the landmark of $650 million on the worldwide box-office. Domestically, the Andy Muschietti’s supernatural horror directorial has earned around $320.234 million. While, globally the Bill Skarsgard film has grossed around $651.6 million.
With its domestic earnings ‘IT’ has also left 2002’s The Mummy Returns behind, when being adjusted for inflation ($202 million in 2002/$318 million in present day).
