Asus is trying to revive itself yet again after some void of about a year and a half-its phones have been less popular since the announcement of many big-names, namely, Apple’s iPhone 7, 8 and X, Samsung’s S7, S8 and Note 8 et al.
But the mid-range is what Asus targeted this year and came up with its stylish, slimmest and fabulous phone yet-the Zenfone Zoom S. As per the reports, this heavy-duty battery beast is the most thinnest and slimmest smartphone in the mid-range section.
But for those who are still unaware of it, here is a re-focus!
Asus launched the Zenfone Zoom S, in India during August, 2017 with a price tag of around Rs.26,999.
The phone is touted to be the most durable one from Asus yet, with a humongous battery of 5000mAh-and that too when it’s a mid-range phone, because even most of the flagship phones aren’t sporting a 5000mAh battery.
Going deep in its technicalities, the phone sports a big 5.5 Full HD AMOLED display, surrounded with a metal body. Even with a big battery, it weighs just around 170 grams!
But first of all, the camera, because that’s the USP of Zoom S, being a mid-range phone. It can beat many rivals with a smart camera interface this time, being infused by Asus and supported by SONY!
The dual-camera setup on Zoom S with a 12x zoom and 2.3x optical zoom capabilities will surely blow your mind away! Going briefly, there is a dual camera with one being a 12-megapixel SONY IMX362 sensor (f/1.7 aperture) and 25 mm wide-angle main lens. And then there is a second camera of 12-megapixel zoom sensor of 59mm, which supports instant 2.3x true optical zoom and 12x of overall zooming power!
As Asus itself told in a note during the time of launch:
This setup ensures sharp focus on subjects at any distance.
For low light photography also, Asus has done something remarkable this time, with ASUS SuperPixel Camera, for detailed pictures in night and low-light.
About the low-light camera feature Asus mentioned that, “The SuperPixel Camera comes combined with advanced hardware and software enhancement by ASUS SuperPixel technology and let users achieve light sensitivity that is 2.5 times (2.5X) greater than that of the Apple iPhone 7 Plus, and 10X that of an average smartphone.”
As the phone also supports 4K photos and recording, it also combines the OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization), together.
On the front, there is a 13-megapixel SONY IMX214 sensor (f/2.0 aperture) which can use the screen itself as ‘flash’ for capturing more light and giving better selfies!
Now, moving over to its other specs and details, the Zoom S as mentioned above is packed by a huge 5,000mAh battery which lasts for about 6.4 hours for continuous 4K UHD recording! And the highlight of the phone is that it can also act as a ‘Power Bank’ to charge other devices!
The design of Asus Zoom S is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which is said to be 70% more stronger and tougher than its previous versions. For the protection of the user’s eyes, the phone also comes with blue-light filter.
Talking about the speed and performance, Asus Zoom S is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 14 nm processor and a good 4 GB of RAM. For delivering clear and sharp sound even when the volume levels get louder, there is a 5-magnet speaker, boosted by NXP SmartAMP.
Being HiRes-certified, it means the Zoom S, can playback lossless audio formats like 192kHz/24-bit and give upto 4x better audio quality, in comparison to CD audio.
And last, but never the least, for the ultimate protection of its users, the phone is backed-up by a fingerprint sensor on the back which, the company claims, can unlock the phone in 360 degrees, with 5-fingerprint recognitions.
The phone comes in two colour options, navy black and glacier silver and is available on the online portal Flipkart.
