The revolution that drew the attention of the entire world; the silent fight for the rights of themselves in a democratic nation finally tasted victory with the amendment of the PCA. Jallikattu is now legal and will happen in Tamil Nadu every year without any obstacles.
Such a trendsetting protest that laid a path for the entire nation to speak for themselves has eventually left a bigger impact. Many new happenings in the state are bringing in more rewards for the jallikattu movement. The various other facts spread during the protest have created awareness and are being followed actively.
One such thing was, reducing the usage of foreign products that push down the value of Indian rupee. Youngsters decided to stop consuming Pepsi and Coca-Cola and now the Tamil Nadu traders’ Union has also backed the move. The Union announced that sale of Pepsi and Cola will come to a stop shortly. Many college managements have come forward to ban these soft drinks within their college premises. It has been observed that sales of these soft drinks have come down by nearly 70% now.
Beef sales have also plunged down the scale. A meat shop owner said that previously he could sell meat from a whole cow within no time; but now it’s becoming a head ache to sell even half of it. He also lamented that if the trend prevails, he would have to shut his shop down.
With more stress being made on our native culture and pride, people have started showing great interest towards buying indigenous goods. One part of the population has decided to give up on foreign chocolates and return to the age-old ‘Kadala Mittai’ (groundnut candy).
This is a welcome change and has also proven to result in a healthy life; example being our ancestors. Also, this would instill a drastic change in the economy of our country. With this trend continuing, India has a very bright chance to restore the top slot in the currency value, that it once did.
