One of the crucial games of the season was played between leaders Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspurs in the Spurs’s invincible den, White Hart Lane. The two clubs from the capital city London are amongst the major league title contenders of the season.

A disciplined performance by the Spurs were capped off with two phenomenal goals as Alli-Eriksen duo combined in this London derby for Tottenham to sink the leaders Chelsea.

Tottenham scored two goals (46′ & 54′), both carbon copy of each other on either side of the half time to thrash Chelsea.

Dele Alli scored from an emphatic header to give the home side lead in first half extra time when Christian Eriksen spotted him in the box and delivered a pinpoint cross for the scoreline to read 1-0 at the stroke of half time.

Chelsea had several chances but they all went begging as the solid defence of the Spurs and their goalkeeper Hugo Lloris were able to thwart every Chelsea attack. The Tottenham crowd loved to jeer the visiting team every time Chelsea missed an opportunity in front of the goal.

This was the 5th win on the trot for Spurs this season. They now also have the best defensive record in the premier league this season. Unsurprisingly, they have not lost in any of the 10 games played at their home ground this season.

With this win, Tottenham climbed up above Arsenal and Man City to third position still seven points behind Chelsea. Chelsea still lead the table with 49 points having a five point lead over their nearest rivals Liverpool.

In other important games, Man City beat Burnley 2-1 and Man United beat West Ham 2-0 to stay in the hunt. Other title challengers, Arsenal and Liverpool were held 3-3 at Bournemouth and 2-2 at Sunderland respectively.

Both Chelsea and Tottenham now have their FA Cup third round fixtures ahead of them. Chelsea then face defending champions Leicester City away while Tottenham host West Brom on 14th January.
