Australian Open is proving to be a heck of a start to the new season of Tennis. Since Day one of the tournament, every match has been hard fought battles. The Top stars of the game are facing stiff challenges from young players.
Mischa Zverev eliminated World number 1 Andy Murray
In Men’s singles, Andy Murray is out of the tournament. German Mischa Zverev beat world number 1 Murray in four sets. Zverev pressured Murray and rushed up to the net for quick return. The tactic troubled Murray throughout the game. The world number 1 did win the second set after a hard battle but lost the game 7-5, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. Meanwhile, Stansilas Wawrinka played 7-point tiebreaker in every set against Andreas Seppi. Wawrinka battled and won all three sets in Tiebreakers. The final score for the game was 7-6(7-2), 7-6(7-4), 7-6(7-4).
Finally, in the main game of the day Roger Federer faced Kei Nishikori. The game was a five set battle. Federer beat Nishikori 6-7(7-4), 6-4, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Nishikori won the first game and made a comeback to win the fourth set. But Federer preserved and managed to beat Nishikori.
In women’s Singles, Venus Williams put away Mona Barthel . Williams won 6-3, 7-5 against Barthel. Finally in the Double’s competition, brothers Feliciano and Marc Lopez lost to Pablo Carreno Busta and Guillermo Garcia Lopez 7-6(8-6), 6-4.
Indian Tennis fraternity had a mixed day. Sania Mirza lost her women’s doubles game. Mirza and her partner Strycova lost to Japanese Duo Kato and Hozumi in a back and forth battle. Kato/Hozumi won 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 against Mirza and Strycova. While, Leander Paes and Martina Hingis had an easy day out. Paes/Hingis won 6-4, 6-3 against Australians Plomans/Aiava.
