Blade Runner 2049 is just two days away from its international release and even before that, the early reviews and rave reactions from online portals and critics alike, are all but astounding. Amid all the praises for the film itself, the cast has given an excellent and worthy performance. But among the big names like Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Sylvia Hoax and Jared Leto, there’s a (newcomer in Hollywood) Cuban actress, Ana de Armas, who’s also getting tons of congratulations for her role in the futuristic sci-fi sequel to 1982’s Blade Runner.
Recently, the actress was interviewed by Esquire magazine for their October issue, and she told about how she felt about being cast as one of the parts of this movie and what it was like to work with the rest of the actors.
When asked about the moment she got the call for the movie she told, “My phone was blowing up! I was calling all my friends in Spain, my parents in Cuba. It was nonstop for five hours.”
“She’s very important in K’s life. She’s his best friend, his lover, his cheerleader,” she said regarding her character but not revealing anything about the plot or the storyline. “I wish I could tell you everything, but there’s probably someone on the line ready to kill me.”
Telling about the experience of working with Ryan Gosling, she praised her co-star and said, “He is probably the most humble person I’ve met in my life. He’s very shy. But at the same time, he’s very funny.”
Well, Armas is a big name as far as Spanish film industry is concerned. She has got a big success there before really getting into Hollywood to prove her mettle.
“I’m ambitious in a good way. I’ve never wanted to settle as long as I’ve thought there’s more.”
She also told about what her father used to teach her, about life.
“My father used to say, ‘Take the long view and short steps.’ ”
After Blade Runner 2049, Ana de Armas will star alongside Joel Kinnaman, Clive Owen and Rosamund Pike in Three Seconds.
