“Context” is a word getting used a lot these days in cricket. It feels like there has always been a need to provide context to our beloved game of cricket. Such a concept not only evokes curiosity but also great excitement for fans. Notably, boards like Cricket Australia has been always seen working to keep the topic hot by always keeping it in the talks and its current and future plans.
The way cricket goes these days, its kind of becoming boring and to be precise, a lot meaningless and even fans have got tired of watching the same 6-7 teams competing again and again. Hence, evolution becomes a necessity. A game like cricket needs to be expanded and also should be provided with some meaning. Teams should be competing for something more than just a trophy.
The ICC’s chief executive committee has given an indication on re-structuring Test cricket and ODI cricket as well. Basically, the proposal is of a two tier league which will consist of around 13 teams. The proposal is not official yet and may get discussed within next couple of meetings. Complete details of the proposal are yet to get clear but some points are a little less faded, like top nine Test playing nations will be joined by Ireland and Afghanistan. Also associate nations will also get more and more opportunities.
The hottest news amidst all this is that BCCI is not in favor of this proposal and also have been mulling on pulling out of champions trophy and upcoming bilateral series as well and Indian cricket’s internal chaos can well prove to be a big hindrance in the path of this proposal. On the other hand ODI form Is also expected to have 13 teams and the bilateral series will provide qualification for champions trophy as well as world cup .
