“Life is a ride and you got to keep moving”, with this tagline Dear Zindagi has opened at the Box Office on Friday, Nov. 25. After English Vinglish , this will be Gauri Shinde’s second directorial venture featuring a female protagonist. The movie’s cast includes Alia Bhatt, Shah Rukh Khan, Ira Dubey, Angad Bedi, Ali Zafar and Aditya Roy Kapoor.
The story revolves around a budding cinematographer Kaira (Alia Bhatt), who needs to change her outlook of life. She is a modern angst-driven confused individual looking to find her real self. The movie traces her journey, her up and downs and her attempts to fix her life. Enter Dr. Jehangir Khan (SRK), a therapist who takes the meaning of life to a complete different level, focusing on the small joys and moments. His advice is to embrace life (Hence, the use of the track,” Ae zindagi gale laga le.”)
Although SRK’s role in the movie is touted as an extended cameo, fans are happy to see him with Bhatt, albeit in the latter half. He makes a sober appearance sans his romantic mannerisms and reminds us of his Chak De avatar a little bit. Alia manages to hold her own against the great and expereinced Khan. She fits in to her role seamlessly. From relationship problems to anger issues, Alia lays it all bare.
The movie is expected to cross over Shinde’s directorial debut, English Vinglish’s first day sales of more than 8 crores on Friday.
The movie has been heavily promoted with the lead pair even making an appearance on Koffe with Karan. The film’s teasers and songs have been doing the rounds for a long time and have kept the viewers hooked in. The multiplex circuit is sure to appreciate the sweet telling of self discovery with a little help from an expereinced soul. Word-of-mouth may help the movie gain audience in second tier cities too.
