Padma Shri award winning veteran actress, Sridevi, 54, died yesterday, on February 24th, due to cardiac arrest in Dubai where she had gone to attend the wedding of her nephew, Mohit Marwah.

She died late in the night, as confirmed by the sources, in contact with her family.

“Yes it’s true. She was in Dubai while some of the other family members came back to India. We hear it’s cardiac arrest.”

The great actress, known for her memorable roles in many Bollywood films and also known for her dancing skills, made her debut in Bollywood in 1978, with ‘Solva Sawan’, while in Tamil cinema she had entered in 1969 with ‘Thunaivan’. But the movie that made her the big star was ‘Himmatwala’, opposite actor Jeetendra, which was a blockbuster and also a big commercial success.

She received critical acclaim for some of her best roles in films like, ‘Sadma’ (1983), ‘ChaalBaaz’ (1989), ‘Lamhe’ (1991), and ‘Gumrah’ (1993).

The actress, after a big release, Judaai (1997), went on a long break and made a big comeback with ‘English Vinglish’ in 2012, getting herself appreciation from audience and critics alike.

Recently seen in her penultimate movie ‘Mom’, she had also shot for a cameo in eventually her final film before death, Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero, scheduled for a release in December, this year.

The moment her death news disseminated across the country, condolences began to come in, from every known face in the Bollywood industry.
