After launching the Nova 2i smartphone with four cameras in China earlier this month, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei on Saturday updated its mid-range smartphone catalogue with the launch of a new 4G-enabled smartphone, dubbed as the “Huawei Y6 Pro (2017)” in the European market. Huawei Y6 Pro (2017) is the successor and also the upgraded variant of the company’s previous Y6 (2017), which was first unveiled earlier this year. Carried a price tag of €179 (approximately Rs. 13,660), the Huawei Y6 Pro (2017) model is now already available for purchase in Germany, Italy, and France in Black, Silver and Gold colour options. The smartphone will also be rolled out to other European markets in the coming weeks.
Design wise, the Huawei Y6 Pro (2017) sports a full metal body with metal edges all around, giving it an overall premium look and making it a sturdy device. The new member of the Huawei Y series features onscreen navigation buttons and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, located just middle of the back panel of the device. The volume up-down keys and the power/lock button are all placed on the right-hand edge of the device, while a 3.5mm audio socket is placed on the very top edge of the smartphone. The speaker grilles are seen at the bottom edge of the handset along with a microUSB charging port sitting in the middle. The rear panel of the handset houses a 13MP camera, LED flash module, fingerprint recognition button, and Huawei logo, while the top front panel features a 5MP selfie camera, sensors, and an earpiece.
In terms of specifications, the Huawei Y6 Pro (2017) comes equipped with a 5-inch HD IPS display with a screen resolution of 720×1280 pixels. Under the hood, the device is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor coupled with Adreno 308 GPU to take care the graphics content. In terms of memory, the Huawei Y6 Pro (2017) is backed up by a 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. On the software front (OS), the Huawei Y6 Pro (2017) runs company’s proprietary EMUI 5.1 custom UI skin, based on Google’s Android 7.0 Nougat operating system. As we mentioned, the smartphone also features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for the biometric authentication process.
In terms of photography, the Huawei Y6 Pro (2017) features a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus, PDAF, and an LED flash. Talking about its selfie camera, the smartphone has a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter for making video calls and capturing selfies.
On the connectivity front, the smartphone supports 4G with LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS/ A-GPS/ Glonass, Bluetooth 4.1, a 3.5mm audio jack and a microUSB v2.0 port for charging and data transfer. Sensors on the device include an Ambient light sensor, Accelerometer, E-Compass, Fingerprint and Proximity sensor. On the battery front, the Huawei Y6 Pro (2017) is fuelled by a decent 3,020mAh non-removable battery that is rated to deliver up to 15 hours of video playback, up to 12 hours of web browsing and up to 2 continuous days of music playback time. Dimensionally, the handset measures 143.5 x 71 x 8.05 mm and weighs 145 grams.
