KL Rahul is back in the Indian squad for the second test match against England in Vishakapatnam. He missed the first test due to injury which he sustained while playing against New Zealand last month. He was considered fit after he scored 76 and 105 in a Ranji Trophy match.

He will replace Gautam Gambhir who scored only 26 and 0 in the first test.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced in a press release, “The All India Senior Selection Committee has decided to add India batsman KL Rahul to the Indian squad ahead of the second Test of the Paytm Test Series – 2016 between India and England to be played at Vizag from November 17, 2016. Rahul has fully recovered from his right hamstring injury and would be joining the squad.”

The head coach Anil Kumble said in a press conference, “Yes, Rahul is available for selection and you would want Rahul to be in the starting line-up; that’s the reason he has been included.” He has a norm for injured players. They have to prove their fitness in a competitive match for a comeback. Rahul convinced the team management about his fitness progress after his performance against Rajasthan in the Ranji Trophy match.

Anil Kumble’s requirement of proving one’s fitness seems to be working. He believes that playing before full recovery can worsen the injury and prove harmful to a player and his team in the long run.

Rahul has joined the team. He was seen playing football with his teammates and participating in a fielding training session.  He told The Times of India that he was feeling good and was happy with his batting.

KL Rahul is known as one of the best openers at present. His injuries have taken him away from bigger opportunities. He missed the entire series against New Zealand after injuring his hamstring. After the injury he has spent a lot of time at the nets as he did not want the injury to hamper his batting. He gave credit to his Karnataka state teammates for motivating him and helping him get to where he is.
