Motorola Mobility, a Lenovo owned brand, on Wednesday launched the fifth generation of its G series smartphone, Moto G5 Plus with rapid charging, a fingerprint reader and advanced camera features in the Indian market at a price of Rs14,999 onwards. The latest smartphone, Moto G5 Plus from Motorola builds on the success of the previous generations of the Moto G series.
Motorola has introduced the metal unibody design in the Moto G5 Plus for the first time in the G series smartphone, replacing the plastic body in the earlier iteration. Further, the device also features with the popular Google Assistant, which was first seen on Google’s Pixel smartphones only. The Moto G5 Plus boasts a splash proof metal frame design and houses a physical home button on the front which comes embedded with a fingerprint sensor. The look of the rear camera casing and the front fingerprint sensor are more in line with Moto Z’s design. However, the fingerprint scanner button is not clickable and is capacitive in nature. The company has made the new smartphone 7 mm thin.
Lenovo Moto has officially announced the Moto G5 Plus smartphone in India, at an event held in New Delhi. The Moto G5 Plus has been launched in India with the price tag at Rs 14,999 for the 3GB RAM, 16GB internal storage variant and the 4GB RAM, 32GB storage variant costs Rs 16,999. The new handset will be selling exclusively through the e-commerce website Flipkart in India from tonight (at 11:59 PM) in two attractive color options of Lunar Grey and Fine Gold.
The smartphone was launched along with Moto G5 at the Mobile World Congress 2017, which held in Barcelona last month. The e-commerce platform has also announced a special BuyBack Guarantee scheme worth Rs 1,199 for the Moto G5 Plus smartphone that Flipkart will buy the Moto G5 Plus at an ‘assured price’ (guaranteed exchange rate) when the customers want to purchase another smartphone on the website. Flipkart is giving an additional Rs 1,500 off on exchange and an extra 10 percent discount on SBI cards. Additionally, customers can get Moto Pulse 2 at Rs 599.

“This is our biggest franchise and the fastest selling as well. India is one of the first markets globally where we are launching the Moto G5 Plus,” Motorola Mobility India Managing Director, Sudhin Mathur, told reporters.
MOTO G5 PLUS SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES
In terms of specifications, Moto G5 Plus sports a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) IPS LCD display offering a pixel density of 423 pixels per inch and the display layered with scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top. The smartphone is powered by a blazing-fast octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset. Known for being a very power efficient chipset, it comes with eight Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz. The graphics are handled by 650 MHz Adreno 506 GPU.
In terms of memory, the Moto G5 Plus comes in two variants–3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory and 4 GB RAM and 32 GB internal memory. The smartphone also supports expandable storage up to 128 GB using a microSD card via dedicated memory card slot.
In terms of optics, Moto G5 Plus features a most advanced 12 MP rear-facing camera (in its class) with 1.4µm pixels, phase detection auto-focus (PDAF), a dual-LED flash and a large aperture of f/1.7 for supporting low light photography. It also has a dual pixel autofocus for 60% faster capturing than any previous versions of the Moto G Plus. The rear camera is capable of recording 4K videos at 30fps. Talking on selfie-camera, the phone sports a 5-megapixel front camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a wide-angle lens for perfect group selfies and video chats.
In terms of connectivity options, the Moto G5 Plus comes with a front-mounted fingerprint sensor and supports dual SIM. Connectivity options also include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, FM Radio, 3.5mm audio jack and microUSB v2.0. The phone doesn’t support a USB C port. Sensors on the phone includes, accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity, compass and ambient light sensor.
Moto G5 Plus is fuelled by a non-removable 3,000mAh battery with Turbo Charging feature, which is claimed to provide 6 hours of battery life in just 15 minutes of charging. On the software front, the Moto G5 Plus runs Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box and comes with Motorola’s software integration features like Moto Actions and Moto Display. The device measures 150.2 x 74 x 7.7 mm, and weighs 155 grams.
