After announcing the Nokia 7 mid-range smartphone in China, HMD Global-backed Nokia on Tuesday expanded its Android-powered smartphone portfolio by announcing a new budget-oriented smartphone, called the “Nokia 2” at an event in Gurgaon. HMD Global today held a global launch event in Gurgaon, India. At the event, the company has announced the Nokia 2 smartphone’s pricing details, availability, and specifications. But unfortunately, the Nokia 2 price in India has not been revealed by the company yet. Carried an ‘average global price’ of EUR 99 (approximately Rs. 7,500), the Nokia 2 will be available in the market starting mid-November (2017) in Copper Black, Period Black, and Period White colour options. The main highlights of the smartphone are its premium built quality, a Corning Gorilla Glass-protected 5-inch HD LTPS display, pure stock version of Android 7.1.1 Android Nougat OS, and a powerful 4,100mAh battery.

In terms of design, the Nokia 2 sports a full metal unibody design with 6000-series aluminium frame, making it a sturdy and durable device and giving it a fresh outlook. The new Nokia 2 also features onscreen navigation buttons. The volume up-down keys and the power/lock button are placed on the right-hand edge of the smartphone and a microUSB 2.0 charging port is located on the very bottom edge of the device. The rear panel of the handset houses an 8MP rear camera setup with an LED flash module, while the top front panel features a 5MP selfie camera and an earpiece.

As far as specifications are concerned, the Nokia 2 flaunts a 5-inch HD LTPS display with a screen resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and a scratch resistance Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top of the display. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 quad-core chipset, which comes clubbed with Adreno 304 GPU to handle the graphics. In terms of memory, the Nokia 2 is backed up by a 1GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. Talking about its software front (OS), the Nokia 2 runs on Google’s pure stock version of Android 7.1.1 Nougat (upgradable to Android 8.0 Oreo) operating system out of the box. The smartphone also features IP52 rating that means it is a Splash proof device.

In terms of photography, the Nokia 2 features an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus and a single LED flash. On the front, the device features a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter for capturing selfies and making video calls. On the connectivity front, the Nokia 2 offers dual-SIM dual standby using the Hybrid Dual-SIM configuration. That means you can either use this as a dual-SIM phone without memory card option or single-SIM phone with memory card option. Apart from this, the smartphone also supports 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS/A-GPS, FM radio with RDS, a 3.5mm audio jack and a microUSB port for charging and other connectivity. On the battery front, the Nokia 2 is fuelled by a massive 4,100mAh battery that is rated to deliver up to 2 days of battery life on normal usage. Sensors on the smartphone include an Accelerometer, Ambient Light Sensor, E-Compass, and Proximity sensor. Dimensionally, the handset measures at 143.5 x 71.3 x 9.3 mm.
