After a series of many leaks and revelations, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo on Thursday officially announced the launch of its latest full-screen display smartphone, christened as the “Oppo F5” at an event in the Philippines. The Oppo F5 is the company’s first offering to come with a full-screen display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The Oppo F5 comes in two variants based on its RAM and internal storage configuration: Oppo F5 with 4GB RAM & 32GB native storage and Oppo F5 with 6GB RAM & 64GB native storage.
As for pricing, the Oppo F5 with 4GB RAM & 32GB internal storage variant has been launched with a price tag of Philippine Peso (PHP) 15,990 (approximately Rs. 20,000 or US$307), while the pricing for the Oppo F5 with 6GB RAM & 64GB internal storage variant have yet to be confirmed. The Oppo F5 will be available for pre-order in the Philippines starting tomorrow (October 27) and the same will be going on sale in the Philippines starting November 4 (Saturday) in Gold, Black and Red (6GB RAM version) colour options. As we reported earlier, the company confirmed that it will launch the Oppo F5 in the Indian market on November 2nd. Besides this, the company also confirmed that it will unveil Oppo F5 smartphone in Southeast Asia Market including Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam soon.
The main highlights of the Oppo F5 are its full-screen display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, Google’s Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system a 16-megapixel rear camera, and an improved 20-megapixel front-facing camera with A.I. Beauty Recognition technology and facial recognition technology. The new AI technology not only promises to capture better selfies, but it also can be used to unlock the smartphone using its facial recognition technology. The A.I. Beauty Recognition technology uses artificial intelligence to recognise skin tone and type, gender and age of all subjects within an image by scanning more than 200 facial recognition spots and learns facial features unique to each subject, regardless of the angle or lighting. The AI technology also analyses environment lighting conditions to beautify a selfie shot.

In terms of design, the Oppo F5 sports a sleek and sophisticated metal unibody design with curved metal edges and a finespun linear finish at the tip of the device, giving it an overall premium outlook. The smartphone also features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, that is housed on the back panel of the device. The volume rockers are placed on the left-hand edge of the device, while the power/lock key button is situated at the right-hand edge of the smartphone. A 3.5mm audio socket, speaker grilles are seen at the bottom edge of the handset along with a microUSB charging port sitting in the middle. The 16MP rear camera setup is still positioned exactly the top left corner of the rear panel, while the 20MP front-facing camera is fixed on the top left corner of the front panel.
Oppo F5 Specifications and Features:
As far as specifications are concerned, the new Oppo F5 flaunts a gigantic 6-inch Full HD+ display with a screen resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and a scratch resistance 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top. The display has an 18:9 aspect ratio and offers a stunning screen-to-body ratio. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by a MediaTek MT6763T octa-core processor coupled with 800MHz ARM Mali G71 MP2 GPU to handle the graphics. In terms of memory, the device is backed up by a 4GB/6GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card. Talking about its software front, the Oppo F5 runs on Google’s Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system with company’s proprietary ColorOS 3.2 custom UI skin running on top.
For photography, the Oppo F5 comes equipped with a 16-megapixel sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF), and an LED flash. On the front side, the Oppo F5 features a 20-megapixel front-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture, 1/2.8-sensor size, and A.I. Beauty Recognition technology support to beautify a selfie shot perfectly.
In terms of connectivity, the Oppo F5 is a dual-SIM smartphone that accepts two Nano-SIM cards. Apart from this, the device also supports various connectivity options that include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4GHz & 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, hotspot, GPS / A-GPS / GLONASS, USB OTG, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microUSB 2.0 port for charging and data transfer. On the battery front, the Oppo F5 comes packed with a decent 3,200mAh non-removable battery with fast charging technology support. Sensors on the smartphone include an Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor, Fingerprint (rear-mounted), Proximity sensor, E-compass, and Gyroscope sensors. Dimension wise, the handset measures 156.5 x 76 x 7.5 mm and weighs 152 grams.
